We caught the ferry and were heading to Phi Phi. All I could remember from our last visit months ago was the white beach and island escape vibe. We trekked with our backpacks til we found a suitable hotel (Mr Jong Guest House), a little overpriced I felt but there was not much left on the island that came in any cheaper. We all headed off to the beach. To our suprise there was no beach just a mass of people crowded together as far as the eye could see. It was packed and im not talking just a little im talking a lot. We managed to find an inch of sand where the four of us squeezed in. The water level was higher than i remembered and the beach alot smaller. But it still was nice not too touristy but had more of a traveller vibe. We ate at a fab mexican that night that was opposite the palm residence, it wasnt expensive and the food was awsome.
We booked a snorkling trip for the whole day and it cost us 450thb. We were given mask, snorkle, fins and sent off on long tail boats to explore the fishy
waters of Phi Phi. We first stopped at shark point and we helped my mam get used to the water and snorkle then moved to bamboo island. The visibility was amazing and there was so much to see. We stopped off at a small island and me, Craig and my dad started free diving as the coral went deep and we wanted to see different fish. My dad can dive really deep without his fins on whereas i was struggling with them on. Then my mam started to feed the fish with rice and they flocked around the boat. So i made Craig and my Dad get in the middle of them so i could take a picture, Craigs nipple then got mistaken for a piece of rice, and the fish were trying to eat it. It was very amusing. We stopped at other areas around the island but finished off at Maya Bay, this was the beach where the film The Beach was filmed. The sand was soft and the scenery super but the amount of tourists made it hard to admire. All in all we had a great day. After such an active day we ate at an
all you can eat buffet and i definatley had my moneys as did Craig but i think my parents let the side down. I figured we were not going to eat this good in a long time so we took full advantage. But we did manage to fit some salad in to even things out. lol
The next day Craig and My Dad whos name is Dave if i havnt told you, went out fishing. So us girls were left in bed and they headed out early. Me and my mam (Carol) grabbed some breakfast and claimed our spot on the beach. We had loads of room until it hit midday and when my dad returned he practically had young women on all sides, a little to close for comfort i would say. We packed our bags that afternoon and headed to the banana bar where we had cocktails and buckets before heading to a tasty thai joint for food, where me and craig had pizza, you may think that is strange, but maybe when we go to Italy we will have thai food, you never know, lol. That night we ended up four on a bed watching the
footy and skyping Craigs family. We spent the next morning on the beach and waited to catch our ferry to Ao Nang.
We only had a few days on Phi Phi but we wished we had spent less time on Kata Beach and more time here. But hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Ao nang does not have the best write up in the lonely planet so our expectations were not too high. We only had 2 nights here as it was a stop off before me and Craig parted with my parents. The beach here was not the best, it was pretty hard to be exact but the restaurants and bars were not too bad. On our first night we went for an Indian at the Royal, the curry was not spicey but the taste was spot on. Nearly as good as the Royal back in South Shields.... nah who am i kidding nothing comes close to the royal back home. We spent our last day at the beach and treated ourselves to a burger king ice cream. Mam and dad treated me and Craig to an all you could eat posh buffet as it was our last
night and a birthday celebration for my mam and my birthday that was upcoming. We all felt a little out of place as they would pulll your chair out for you and put your napkin on your knee, we just werent used to such things but it was nice. After we worked off a few calories by partaking in some shopping then off to a bar to have a final drink and game of pool. I know i went to bed that night hoping tomora would wait a little longer to come. But eventually the sun rose and it was time to say goodbye. As we waited for our ride Carol and I both shed a few tears. I couldnt believe how hard it was to say bye. I should be an expert by now. So my dad helped load the bags and then we said goodbye. My parents were off to Bangkok then their flight home and Craig and i were off to Malaysia.
