Outside of the Bungalow
This is taken a few feet from my front door. Absolute paradise. That really about covers it. Last night I stayed on my side of the island and took in some of the local Thai flare. I ate fish pulled from the sea that day and listened to some really bad karaoke; they love their karaoke over here. I guess I fit in okay, I really wish it were a little more modern though… oh well, it was very entertaining. I called it an early night after I had worked out a deal with one of the local long tail taxi drivers, Reem.
Reem and I left Phi Phi Don about 6:15 this morning. I wanted to go to Maya Bay before its beauty was tainted by all of the tourists and speed boats that come from Krabi and Phuket. We pulled away as the sun rose into the Eastern sky and headed to Phi Phi Lae.
When we pulled into the bay there were a few of the National Parks workers there tidying up before the day began. There were also a handful of campers there, one can pay a few hundred Baht and stay the night. The island is uninhabited other than these few campers. I got
Sunset
I took this last night before dining on fresh fish and listening to horrible karaoke. what I wanted, taking pictures of the bay and relishing the serenity.
Second stop we Reem took me to Pileh Bay where we donned our snorkels and fins and did some fish watching. (It is at this point that I have to apologize for my videos not posting, I plan to remedy this as soon as I return to the states. I think it is a connection issue here.) Sooooo many fish and so many colors. Words will not do this justice. I can’t even imagine what I will see when I SCUBA tomorrow and the following days.
I had let Reem know that I wanted to jump off something high into the sea. It was kind of fun, it was more a game of charades than me actually saying that I wanted to cliff dive. Luckily Reem understood and knew a place. He was also helpful enough to show me how to climb up to the spot. Not easy! Sharp wet rocks on a vertical face made this going pretty touch. No gloves, no shoes and water soaked skin. Once again, not easy. Anyway, once to the top Reem looked down, put his hand in front of

This was taken just outside of the bungalow on the way to find Reem. his heart and made the motion like it was beating very quickly. Reem opted out and climbed down to a lower entry point. I had shown him how to use my video camera so he swam back and took a video of me jumping off this limestone cliff into the sea. It was quite a rush. Had it been easier I would have climbed up again and either done some sort of trick or jumped off something higher. As it was, I was very content with my single jump.
Reem and I then had breakfast in Ton Sai Village on Phi Phi Don. After we finish our breakfast we made our way around the island and headed Northeast to Bamboo Island.
Bamboo Island is my favorite so far. There is a beautiful beach, not too many people, even at midday. The coral here was amazing, as was the sea life that lived within.
After Bamboo we made a quick stop at Mosquito Island before heading back to Tong Cape, Sea Gypsy Village, near where I am staying.
This all made for a fantastic day. Reem and I have plans to head out again before I leave.
On the Long Tail
Getting ready to take off I wonder what that guy gets paid…. It is well worth it to be surrounded by all this natural beauty.
