After spending 2 days sunworshipping...well me sitting in the shade giving my designer patch work sunburns time to heal we decided to go out exploring...and for this we hired ourself a wee scooter, for the costly price of 3 pound a day! I would tell you were we went however I really do not know. We literally got on the scooter, turned right out of our resort and drove...would tell you how fast we went but the speedo wasn't working either so I might be getting a speeding ticket coming my way!
We stumbled across a lovely little beach somewhere and me being me, again declared I was hungry so we embraced the thai culture and went to our second irish bar of the trip for bangers and mash!
With light fading and the petrol running out we decided to head home...just by chance I saw a sign advertising a waterfall which I thought would be interesting to see...I couldn't believe my eyes - wet myself with excitement...I think Sam disowned me. There were elephants just having a stroll around, tigers, cheetahs and monkeys. We trecked through the jungle in the blistering heat and finally got to the waterfall. Me
being disorganised had no swimming trunks with me (unlike Sam who was prepared) so I just went in, in my smalls with Sam looking at lot more gracious than me. That evening we decided to go exploring on the scooter for the last time before we gave it back. Full from our Irish dinner we took a drive down the main road in Samui and came across a traditional Thai supermarket called Tesco. Sam decided this was the time she wanted to experience the scooter so with me in the process of explaining the controls on how to use it, she teared off round the back of Tesco, using her expert skills to avoid the stray trolleys.
So now we came to the end of our 3 nights in luxury, we decided to finally move on...much to the disappointment of sam who found her favourite bakery in the world next door to our resort and kept on giving me minute by minute updates on how good the muffins and cookies were. We caught the ferry over to Koh Phangan, along with 5000 yanks and then were squeezed into the back of a taxi (which was a pick up truck with a metal roof attached) along with 14 other people in 32C heat. When we were dropped at a supposedly nice little bungalow on the beach which we planned to be our relaxing retreat after the Full Moon Party on Saturday, to our horror the bungalow had holes in the floor, no light, smelly and to top it all off the bathroom was outside in a metal shed, with a bucket and scoop for a toilet. When I asked the lady where the "flush" was she laughed in shocked that I had never used this method of shit shovelling before. I have survived some dodgy conditions in uni but this was a step too far!! Within 10 minutes we were in an internet cafe looking for a new place to stay. On the way to the internet cafe though we had to walk through a field of bulls with me regretting the decision I made that morning to put on my red vest! We thought our stay on Koh Samui on luxurious but this was nothing compared to the place we found here...we weren't expecting much with it being the only room available on the island due to the short notice and the looming Full Moon Party the next night. Having trouble uploading the pictures here so they are on facebook...
Friendless we turned up at the hotel bar where everyone in the resort was gathering for cocktails before the taxi's arrived to take us to the Full Moon Party in Haad Rin. Feeling like the outsiders for half an hour, we started talking to an Irish Group with a rogue Ozzy and Kiwi were i was quickly given the nickname Pome. We headed to the Full Moon Party in the taxi at speed Michael Schumacher would have been proud of and the blind bends he was overtaking on. As soon as we stepped out of the taxi we all purchased our "buckets" of alcohol for 3 pound and headed to the beach. We were stopped on our way by a Canadian group we decided to paint us from head to toe in neon paint...seemed like a good idea at the time however we are still trying to get it off now. When we eventually got to the beach we were in shock...we had never seen so many people on the beach at once and with games like fire rope skipping and slides with fire on the sides there was plenty to do. Pictures will follow as we didn't trust ourselves with the camera there. We have decided to extend our stay here as we need a few more days recovery time and we cannot take the stress of arriving at another dump complete with poop scoop. Again, pictures are on facebook
Our next blog will be from Sydney so we'll say G'Day when we arrive! x
