note to readers:
this blog contains details that may be inapproprite for loving family members! read at your own risk... but don't worry, we are still alive and well!
after Koh Tao we took a ferry boat to another island called Ko Pha Ngan. we have been hearing stories about this place throughout our travels, but still we were so unprepared for how crazy it truly was. we met up with two of our friends from uc davis, and the four of us shared a cute little bungalow right by the beach. the hotel we stayed at, coral, threw parties in their restaurant overlooking the sunset every night.
on one of these drunken nights, the dj asked us if we wanted to be ring girls in the thai boxing match he was announcing for. it was going to be a big one too... all the champions from each city were pitted up against each other. in our drunken stupor, we agreed bc he said we could have one free meal and all the free booze our little hearts desired for the rest of our stay. tempting as it was, we backed out at the last minute. although it
welcome!
to the most desirable island party in the world... would have been a classic blog story for all of you at home, we did not feel up to prancing around in our bikinis in front of hundreds of drunk, testosterone pumped up men.
so, basically the island of KP is shasta house boats times one million. no joke, every night 1000's of people go to this one area where bars, clubs, restaurants, and shops line the beach around a bay where both the sun and moon rise over.
one night (morning), at 3 am some new friends, jess and stace stumbled onto this crazy christmas lit bar on a hill called mellow mountain. at around 4 am we sat on a deck with floor cushions around a candle lit table, and we split a little breakfast shake. we chilled for awhile just listening to island music and people watching, and then we started walking back to get a camera for sunrise.
once we got over to our hotel, we only made it about half way back to the beach where the sun rises over the ocean. we found a granite rock that jutted out into the water and had a 180 view of ocean and clouds
in front and a 180 view of hills and palms behind.
we were so tired and happy at this one spot that we stayed there until 9am exploring the tide pools with all sorts of creatures. we got lost in our thoughts as we starred at the breathtaking water and clouds. all so beautiful at sunrise... or so we thought! it was good fun to have a camera and see what it actually looked like since we were so, um, tired... hahaha. the water was glassy; the bright, pastel cotton candy colors were reflecting off the surface in a shimmery way.
second sunrise in a row, and not our last on this zany island!
we only slept a little that day, and then went to the beach. picture this - hundreds of beautiful tan bodies from all over the world being super mellow (recovering from hangovers) on a beach where the water is 90 degrees... insane! we napped a little more bc the nights before were just warm up rounds!
the night of the 16th there was a full moon, and every full moon, 1000's of additional travelers flock to the island to celebrate (who knew?).
pick your poisons...
mixture of sam-song moonshine or vodka mixed with red bull and soda or juice... these def get the job done right! this one particular full moon
(of course!) was a special one that is only celebrated once a year. there were really creative offerings that were made of island flowers and banana leaves - decorated with candles and incense that were just chillin' in the bay all night.
it is hard to describe, but there were at least 10,000 people from all over the world who were, how shall we say...?... royally fucked up beyond belief! stands line up on the beach where for $5 you get a 5th of sang som (whiskey that has amphetamines and is illegal to bring out of the country) or vodka, a red bull, and a soda or box of juice. you pick your poisons, and they dump them all in a bucket with ice. everyone just stumbles around all night on the beach and clubs drinking from straws out of these buckets. a lot of places set up rugs with little tables, and one can sit on the beach watching people dance/rave with fire all night. EVERYONE is either on e, stonned, shrooming, piss ass drunk, or all of the above.
the night of the full moon party - we danced all
just gettin' started!
rachel, angelo, stace, jess and tom night and saw another amazing sunrise. we only lasted until 8am, but when we left, the beach still had 1000's of people dancing around like crazy.
absolutely the wildest beach party one could ever go to in the world! however, we still think new year's in Goa, India is going to step it up a level. Goa is suppose to be one of the most desirable party places on earth for new year's, but we cannot begin to fathom anything more intense then the few days described above.
it took all day to recover, and then the next morning stacy took a taxi, boat, bus, truck, motorbike, a mini bus, and another taxi to get to a city called Ranong. bc stacy is stacy, and never got her 60 Thailand visa, she needed to cross the border into Burma in order to stay another 30 days. jess headed south with rachel klipp, and one day later we all met up again in Krabi, a city on the west coast.
we hope you all enjoy these pictures - wish you could have been there!

Confused
I'm a little confused about how Rachel ended up in this story. Has she been with you the whole time? Is there anyone else on this trip I should know about? Tell her I said hi.
