I woke up at 10ish. I asked Kat and Janna to meet me so they could take my bungalow. I went to the beach and Paul from Holland was waiting for me. This was brilliant I’d asked him to come to the island and when he did (I read my email too late) I was leaving the day after he arrived. Typical. We said we meet up in Sydney. Joe our bungalow owner drove the boys and I to the ferry port to get the speedboat. Whilst we were waiting for our ferry Patrick and Justin arrived back from Phi Phi. I think they thought I was there to meet them so I joked I had a jeep waiting, haha. It’s a shame, I really wanted to spend more time with Partick but I guess it wasn’t meant to be. We had a goodbye cuddle and Glenn, J and I got onboard our speedboat. 3 hours later we arrived on Ko Lipe. We got dropped on a floating port and had to get a longtail to the beach. I asked the driver to take us to sunset beach as I know there is only one resort there,
so should be quiet.
As we arrived I can’t explain how beautiful the island was. Id found paradise! We asked at Porn Resort if there was any room and they only had one room available. As it was the Kings birthday this weekend there were a lot of Thai visitors on the Island so that is why they were full. So we walked along a tiny sand path through the jungle towards the ChaoLey village. On the way we came across Jungle Jacks. This was also full. Oh no we thought and carried on the path to the village and to sunrise beach.
We arrived at the village to the sound of music and children laughing and dancing, amazing. I couldn’t believe how beautiful this place was. I felt like I was in The Beach. There were chickens and other animal running around the the fishermen and their families we smiling at us. We headed right along another path and cam across some other tourists and asked if they knew where we could stay. They told us about a resort and luckily they had room but it was 1800bht! Ouch.(Called ..something Cabanna) We walked about to find a
cheaper bungalow to move to tomorrow. In doing this we walked to Pattaya Beach. Suddenly my island dream was shattered. We found the path to Pattaya which was newly concreated. Apparently because of tourists not seeing snakes on the path. It’s such a shame I didn’t come to Thailand when I first read about Ko Lipe 2 years ago. The newly concreated path has shops either side and feels a little touristy. A local told me that 5-8 Years ago, Pooh’s was the only place in the jungle. Still it is a beautiful place and I think is still one of the least developed.
We had a good dinner and then went to Pooh’s bar for a few beers and to chill. Jay then went back to the bungalow and Glenn and I went to Jungle Jacks to have a few more beers and we met some lovely people and chatted until the early hours.
7th December
We got up really early to have our included breakfast and to try to find a cheaper bungalow. The sky was cloudy with a bit of sun bursting through. After a really bad breakfast we walked towards Pattaya Beach. We
found called Hong Bank for 500bht for the 3 or us. These were brand new. The taps still had their plastic on! They put in a massage bed for Glenn and I shared with Jay. We collected our bags from the old resort and delivered them to our new home. The weather then turned and it was monsoonish. So we put on out waterproofs and went for an explore around the island. My favourite area was the north tip or sunrise beach near Mountain Resort. If I have loads of cash id stay here. Wow the view is the best on the island. The new bungalows look out onto Ko Adang. Amazing. We then went to have some food and went to Pooh’s for the 6pm movie.
8th- 9th December.
Yesterday we had a really chilled day. We hired snorkel sets and went snorkelling off Pattaya beach. Whilst in the sea, it started raining really hard. It was like razors on my back but under the sea was amazing. I saw Parrot fish, angelfish, seal puffers and may others. I even think I saw a small shark. The fact it was so fast to move leads me to think it was a shark and I know there have been sightings in that area.We got really tired and the weather was still pants so we went to pooh’s to watch the 6pm movie.
We also decided to go on a snorkel trip with a load of divers. So we got up at 9 and had breakfast and got our equipment we aalso saw Dom who I recommended our bungalows to and he was our neighbour. We asked if he wanted to come on the trip and he did so got on the boat. We were taken to the islands near Adangs Corner to Ko Bitsi, Ta Rue and Ko Tala(stone henge).
As we arrived back on the beach Glenn recognised Maria and Sophia whom we met in Lanta.! I couldn’t believe it. They had come. Whoop! They didn’t like KL so went to Langawi which they also didn’t favour. The remember me banging on about Lipe and it was close so they got on a ferry. Im soooo happy. Ive got the girlies back. So we had dinner at Family Reasturant on Pattaya Beach. We loved the fresh seafood. Maria later checked her emails and flound out there was a good chance that Mike wsa going to come to Lipe tomorrow. Lanta crew reunion. Whoop!! We decided to stay a few more days as the crew are back together.
