Firstly we would both like to say 'thanks for all the comments so far, it really is nice when we log on and read them - thank you and keep them coming'
It was sad to leave Phi Phi - such a place of natural beauty... but I guess that's travelling!! It's not like we were going to find a little deserted island and stay there forever.. hmmmm... actually...maybe.. ;-)!!!!
We arrived back in Krabi hanging off the back off a packed songtaew (in true fireman style) and checked into the Chay chay lay guesthouse, the same one we stayed in before. Same room, same bed and after a quick shower we headed out in search of a replacement camera. Luckily there is a Tesco a few miles out (isn't there always) and after a short ride we soon begrudgingly purchased our second camera in 4 months and headed back to town.
We spent 3 nights in Krabi which flew by and apart from Lee buying some new flip flops (left the last ones on the boat.. doh) and Michelle buying even more mozzy spray (she now has 5 different types and accounts for around 20% of her
total luggage weight!) we soon were planning our next island stop - Ko Lanta.
Lanta is another island in the Andaman sea and after a 2 hr minivan ride (which included a couple of ferry crossings) we were dropped off outside a 7-11 with nowhere booked. This is where our afternoon of room searching begun. I am sure guesthouses are starting to suspect that we are working undercover for a travel guidebook. Normal people look at one maybe two places to stay but not us. We must of looked at 10 rooms.. and then still could not decide ..so we hired a moped.. wedged 4 bags in the footwell somehow and sped off to look at more rooms!!
We ended up settling for a budget friendly place called Lanta Parada Princess resort. The owner a young girl gave us a huge discount and told us she really likes people from England, especially Liverpool - she was of course a big supporter of the reds. After turning down her request to chat on MSN ,we headed for our groovy air con bungalow!!
We took full advantage of the bike the following day and headed off to the bottom
of the island, stopping at random beaches on the way. The further south you get the quieter it becomes and some beaches only had a handful of bungalows on, nice if you want to do nothing for a week. The road stopped and rocks replaced tarmac, the bike started to feel a little unsteady so we headed back to the other side of the island. We arrived at the old town which was quite dull. Back to base, handed the bike back, a quick shower, changed and headed out to have a few shandy's... only where is everyone???
Ko Lanta is deemed a bit of a backpackers hangout being a bit cheaper and all that.. but no one was to be seen. It's quite strange actually as most places we visited so far have been very quiet. I am not sure if we are just going to all the uncool places or the global meltdown really has hit .. and folks can't afford to travel... maybe we should go home.. get jobs... work and make some money...???!!!.... nah!!!
The next few days consisted of getting up, having some brekkie, hitting the beach until 2pm, back to the hut
to watch the crazy storms from the balcony, around 6pm head out with an umbrella for green curry and rice, a beer.. or 2 .. then bed. Really that was our schedule for 5 days... I would like to tell you however that we saw a huge green sea monster while snorkeling and it came out of the ocean eat Michelles leg, my arm, and then a space ship came down from the sky, zapped the creature with its mega lazer beam .... just to make our blog sound more interesting. I guess beach life is so simple.. there really is not that much to report (so in the meantime we shall just make up some silly stories about green sea monsters!)
Maybe we cheated Ko Lanta by writing so little about it. It's a nice place with some hip bars, tasty places to eat and has stacks of beaches along the coast but we really didn't get up to that much.
Next island down is Ko Ngai (aka Ko Hi), hopefully the rain will hold off and let us get some beach sunsets. Apparently its where all the Thai 'married couples' honeymoon and a little upmarket so
we are just off to the ATM to get some more cash... see you soon..
