Ordered chicken basket and this is what I got!!!
Hello everyone,

We arrived in Satun just over the Thai border and got a major shock! There was a festival on in the town called the Vegetarian Festival. It's a buddhist festival that involves acts of self mutilation!!! One minute we were strolling down the road with our backpacks trying to find out how to get to Krabi, the next we were seeing a parade of men with metal skewrs pierced through their faces and pretty much every part of their body, others with machatties, saws and axes slicing their faces and even lips (giving themselves a chelsea smie!). It was totally surreal, blood everywhere, we were thinking what have we left ourselves in for!!! We knew nothing about this festival before arriving there but we've read up a little bit about it since and discovered it happens every year and things can get worse than we saw, some people walk on ladders made of blades!
We eventually made our way to Krabi, on our journey there we got to experience Thai transport and it is as crazy as everyone says it is! The local bus had a massive hole in the floor and the handbrake was a wooden block

that a woman had to put under the wheel very fast every time we wanted to stop! The tuk tuks were fun too, but we were hanging out of a few of them hoping our backpacks wouldn't fall off the top! We made it to Krabi...alive! Met up with Stuart and Jenny and only stayed one night here, took it easy for the night, went for a meal and Laura got a chicken basket which was actually a basket that was made up to look like a chicken (see photo), mad country!
After that we made our way to the island of Ko Lanta with Stuart, Jenny, Karl and Phil and that's where we are now. Its sooo relaxed here, very peaceful, just what we need after all our travelling. Spent the 1st night in a place called the Sanctuary, lovely place. We stayed in a quirky A Frame hut with hammock outside, bamboo shower etc. Now staying in the place next door called Good Days, we decided to move because it has a pool overlooking the beach and because it is off peak here we only paid 1/4 of the usual price, a little bit of luxury. Stuart left to go to do some rock climbing on Rayleigh beach, we're arranging to meet up again on Ko Samui. Long , lazy days here relaxing and watching the most amazing sunsets. Discovered our new love, buckets of Thai whiskey! On to the hectic Ko Phi Phi next so enjoying the relaxation while we can.

Talk soon,
Lots of love,
Laura and Liam xxx
