7- Ko Lanta (Thailand)

Arrived on Ko Lanta early in the day after boat from Phi Phi and found nice and cheap bungalows to stay on Long Beach. Its called Long Beach because its really long, and its a beach. Actually the beach is over 3km long and here i did my first run since leaving Ireland, badly needed after all the lazing I've been doing!

Basically all we did here was chill out and lie on the beach, the water wasnt that great for swimming in cos rocks everywhere but the beach was lovely. Unfortunately the place we booked to stay in was the far south side of the beach meaning we had to walk for half an hour to get to the nice restaurants and bars. The first night we walked to meet with Christian and Tracy (English couple from Toh Ko beach) and had a nice meal and beers in this pub on the beach with hammocks instead of seats. Lovely. All grand til we go to walk home in the darkness when tide coming in. Scald, we crossed what was a stream on our way which had now turned into a river. Had to take off my shorts so I wouldnt be drenched, Edel hitched up the skirt and hopped across with some degree of difficulty cos of the current, but prob still managed it easier than I did.

We also rented a moped here and spent a few frightening hours speeding around the island on it. Im not great at driving them (especially taking off) and Edel was nervous to say the least. Even got stopped by the cops for not wearing helmets even though no-one on the whole island wore helmets driving mopeds. Fuck sake.

Nice place though, not as nice as Phi Phi but pretty chilled out. Stray dogs roaming around everywhere especially on the beach, but I suppose we better get used to that before we hit Bangkok!! anyway next to Phuket for lots of hookers and more beaches....

Only way home
Had to take off my shorts so i wouldnt get soaked on way home from pub. It was pitch dark and tide had come in so stream that was 2 inches deep was now nearly 3 feet deep... Edel was delighted

Ok Edel how d hell were u sunbathing with out a care in d world with a dog underneath ur lounger......i would defo be freakin out!! I know if it was a cat u wouldnt be sitting there care free!!!!!
