After spending some days in Pai we decided to return together to Chiang Mai. Pai wasn’t what we had expected, comparing it a lot to San Marcos, but instead it was more of a bunch of foreigners who had started restaurants and bars. The nightlife seemed to be great but not much for us to do. The journey back went a lot smoother with a bottle in one hand and some toys in the other baby was asleep for most of it. Jippie!
We came back to Chiang Mai on Sunday the 8th of October and Chris started his course on the day after. While Chris has been in school Julian and I have been sightseeing. We went to Chiang Mai Centre of Culture and Art, Chiang Mai National Museum, Tribal Museum and Ratchdamenon Park during his first week of school. I loved it but at the end of the week Julian started to give louder protests when I put him in the backpack. So we took a break and stayed around the guesthouse. The women working here in the kitchen have fallen in love with him and more then gladly they take him for a bit. Either showing him

Our view from the veranda outside our room the little bird they have in the restaurants or just walking around, constantly kissing him, and talking about things I don’t really understand. They think its fun with a white farang baby but sometimes the attention can become too much. Especially in the evenings or when he is tired. It would be fun if we could meet some other family so he can have someone to play with. We miss his Swedish baby-friends!!! (no one going for a holiday soon? 😉
On Chris’ first weekend off I took the chance to do another silver class at Nova. This time I learnt how to make a pendant and I also decided to buy a basic toolset so I can create in my own spare time. I am thinking that while Julian is sleeping in the day or in the evening it could be fun to have something else then my schoolbooks to focus on.
Chris enjoyed a little break as well, even though he didn’t get any extra sleep since Julian doesn’t really care about weekends yet and still wakes us up at 6.30! I guess we have some years left before he is old enough to play by himself
Playtime
Julian enjoys the walking chair... and it saves us some backpain... in the morning. Oh, how we will enjoy it then!
On the Sunday we went to the Zoo. The main attraction they have are two giant pandas that they have borrowed from China. We pay the entrance and then it was a special entrance for the pandas. Not so much for us but more for thais, hopefully the money goes to pay for keeping the pandas happy. One of them was lying on a wooden structure and looked like it was feeling very hot while the other one was walking round and round the stone walls. They are very big animals, it would be nice to see them in their natural enviorment. Julian was more interested in the cooling fan that was pumping out water then the pandas themselves. Soo…
Next big attraction, at least for me! was the Humbult Penguins. They I think Julian enjoyed as well even though his attention more went to the other kids watching the penguins. He really loves older kids and wants to touch them (and I think bite them and taste them as well…) and say hello but the kids are not interested. It’s more their parents that hold out their arms
Tribal Museum
Happy mum taking baby to yet another museum, a few complaints where made.. and ask if they can pick him up. He hasn’t cried yet to anyone but he is a bit suspicious and it takes some time before the smile comes. Which I think is good, a sign for good character! 😉
All the Australian friends and family will really enjoy Chris’ new skill. Trust me, he has practised on me almost every night and it’s very good… mm… you want to fall asleep coz its so nice but then he presses on some sore spot and you are wide awake again. Good healing.
I haven’t yet had a massage in one of the massage places, but I’m looking forward to getting an idea of how it’s done by the “professional” as well.
(Chris here) Yeah, Thai Massage is quite fun, and of course to the family and friends I won’t charge much 😉 (“because you are my brother and I make special discount!”) Today (Sunday) Frederica is back at the silver shop learning stone setting. The piece she did yesterday looked pretty cool and today she is completing that and then working on a new piece in a different style. As for me, I’m enjoying the weekend, Julian is
Bath
Misson complete - clean happy baby sleeping at the moment, due to wake any second and then I’ll think about going somewhere for lunch, probably back to the same restaurant where the women take him and I can eat and read the paper….yes, lazy me!
Now I have finished the basic 2 week thai massage course, have my “certificate” and am ready to start cracking bones! We are leaving tomorrow morning, flying to ‘Bangers’ to hopefully meet up with Sophie, an aussie chick we met in Guatemala. Just waiting for some contact from her…”Sophie, where are ya matey?”
Then we plan to head south to maybe Ko Lanta and sit on a beach for a few weeks. It will be nice for Julian also, coz up here in Chiang Mai there is a bit of pollution around, not great for his little lungs. I can practice massaging, Frederica is happy about that 😉 and she can practice silverwork, maybe she will make me something for my birthday in a few weeks…. hint hint!
And for everyone else, just send any gifts to me at Ko Lanta!! Haha
Julian is waking up now, better go… until we meet again, Sawasdee Kab!
