This has got to be the best part of the travelling I have done so far - Bobby and I went on a 3 day hike in the jungle, where we lived with the villiage tribes, went elephant trekking, white water rafting and went to some amazing waterfalls...here is how it all unfolded.....
We left our accomodation early having got up early and packed our backpacks, we got taken to another accomodation where we met our fellow travellers that would be in our group for the next 3 days.
Lee - a Canadian guy in his mid 20's who had been teaching in Korea for the last year and been travelling around for a while and not been home for a year and 4 months - this was made very apparent with his mass amount of facial hair!
Roiri - a jolly and outgoing Irish guy in his mid 20's who had been travelling around Asia with his girlfriend Laura - who was also on the trip and who told us about this travelblog - thanks guys- they too looked well travelled with their tanned skin.
Laura - Roiri's girlfriend - an easygoing Australian girl also
Bobby exhausted from trekking
- our tour guide to the right sat on rock, he was a legend of a character - such a funny man! in her mid 20's, her and Roiri had me in stitches throughout the trekk with their constant, but lighthearted bickering - you two need your heads knocked together!
We all got acquinted in our hour truck journey ride into the mountains and stopped for some noodles - to boost our energy before the lengthly trek ahead of us.
I was wearing the worst outfit for trekking you could imagine, having not realised we were going trekking straight away and thinking that perhaps we were going to be sat on an elephant for a while I had chosen to wear some cheap baggy trousers from the market - made of thin material - (which ripped whilst trekking - and revealed my bare arse to follwing trekkers!) and my crocs (shoes) - which on the first muddy slope I slid all the way to the bottom and toppled over - muddy for the rest of the trek - doh!
The trek took us 3 hours - it was mostly up hill, and as the air got thinner and hotter it was a very tiring experience, my trousers ripped so much that when it rained part of the way up
I caught my foot on the material and it nearly teared in two - embarresed of my overexposure to my newly acquainted trekkers I decided to continue the rest of the journey with a raincoat tied round my waist - we all saw the funny side though!
Getting to the top of the mountains was such an achievement, the views were amazing! We had cold showers, which were very much due because I was a muddy mess, feeling clean and fresh with some more suitable attire we all treated ourselves to a massage by the village tribes, it was so relaxing!
We sat round a campfire later that evening, where the villiage tribe children entertained us with some song and dance, couldnt understand a word, but it was very good! They then turned on us and asked us to do a performance back, or else we would not get any breakfast - thankfully Roiri took one for the team and sung an old Irish song - cheers for that Roiri!
We sat around playing the card game 'shitheads' where the losers had to do a dare - Lee did a Micheal Jackson dance, and our tour guide
did a highly amusing 'Like a Virgin' act - with moves and everything! It was a very funny night!
----------------------------------------------------
Woke up to a cold shower and eggs with toast for breakfast then met up with another group we would be trekking with. I threw away the trousers and wore some hiking shorts.
There were 5 others - 2 French/Canadian girls, 2 Swedish sisters, and one Asian/American guy.
The rek was nothing compared with the day before, as we had climbed most up hill yesterday, it was either downhill or level footing.
We came across a tranquil looking waterfall where we all took to the cool fresh water, it was beautiful.
After much lazing around, sitting on rocks int he water we had lunch cooked by the tribes - some noodles - very tasty. As we sat and ate, one of the guys of a couple we had seen on the night train had an accident in the waterfall, he slipped off one of the roacks and fell onto his chin, ouch! he was bleeding, but ok, think he might have had to have stitches, but was well looked after by our tour guides.
We did some more trekking and saw some more waterfalls then arrived at our next villiage, where we got showered and changed and stayed up most of the night with Roiri, Laura and Lee playing 'shitheads'
----------------
Woke up to another freezing cold shower - longing for a good shower! we had breakfast then split up groups to go elephant trekking/white water rafting.
We went Elephant trekking first, we swapped cameras with each other so we could get some good pics.
Bobby and I had a really badly behaved Elephant, he was so hungry and kept storming off infront pulling down trees with its trunk, whacking us with it and going down steep hills! Laura and Roiri's elephant had its baby with it, who fell asleep part of the way round. It was a great experience, although our elephant was going up and down steep hills its amazing how sturdy they are.
We then went white water rafting - suited in a helmet, lifejacket and paddle in our hands we drifted down the stream, ther were some big rocks in the water which made it go quite fast at times, you really had to
keep your feet tucked under from falling out! There wasnt as many fast bits as I had liked but it was great fun!
We got showered, changed and fed again then had to wait a very long time before being taken home, apparently a girl in another group had an accident and we had to wait around for transport. It was fine though, we got out the cards, and passed the time!
