Wanna buy these sir ?
It doesn´t matter where you are they try to flog you stuff I left a piece of my heart in Cambodia and again wished I had stayed longer , not realising how easy it is change schedules i continued on my journey vowing to come back here one day , something I did a few weeks later as Asia , thanks to the cheapest of cheapest of flight cost is very accesible . When I look at my trail of Asia I went east- west- south- east -west- north and east again , abit like a kid in a giant sweet shop .
I got my begger mate to take me to airport , a mean task as he had to go on the motorway with his tuc tuc which was a little hairy at times.A normal airport transfer taxi is always expensive and he wanted about a 5th of the price , but of course a gave him the price I would have paid for an aircon transfer taxi , much to his delight. When he came to collect me from the Hotel he came with the whole gang , to say goodbye . They all said a few words in Khymer language , somethin I never understood but it quite touched
Yummy
Fried pigs head anyone ? me all the same . I had exchanged my backpack for a suitcase , bought one in PP for peanuts as I got pissed off digging through it to find stuff and ended up just using the first layer of cloths at the top . So i gave my old ( which was new ) rucksack to them , they probaly flogged it for 10$ which would have fed them for a bit . I gave them my email as well and they pop into the internet cafe sometimes and still to this very day they suprise me with an email which is a nice touch .
It happend only a couple of times after this on my travels, but this was the first time in a foreign country local people have come to the airport to say goodbye to me and when they say we wil miss you , you know they mean it and it really makes everything worth while .
So off I go into the airport , bound for Bangkok home of whores and trannies ! God hope this place is not going to be like what you read about , surely not ?
Village people
One golden rule is do not photograph the Thai police.Rules are there to be broken! I was there before in Bangkok and there was not a whore to be seen but I was at the other side of the city Kho San road I think it was called but I had know idea where I was going now as it was a hasty hotel booking and I was on my way to do a PADi diving course on Kho Tao.
I bypassed the pre immigration booth asking for 50$ exit fee , not paying that I thought and got straight into check in , cant think why they have that booth there because no one askd for the receipt of payment .
Landed in Bangkok airport . abit of a de ja vue since I was there durung the mega floods a few months earlier on the way home and it all looked setttled now.
So it does pay to investigate where your hotel is. My hotel was bang in the middle of the red light district about 100 m away from the start of it all as I found out later that night , Now I have nothing against the prostitutes its thier way of surviving but what got to me
Temptation
Really wanted to go for a drive, the Thai owner laughed nervously not knowing if I was joking or not was the cliental Horrible looking 50 upwards year old potbellied men with young teenager girls on their arms. I used to stare deep into their eyes to try to unsettle them but they dont care .
Loud music , flashing neon lights, shouting swearing and every 2nd woman offering her services ..this is not right especially after the tranquility of Cambodia .
Next morning I decide to do a runner and went to find a bus service to get me out of here and on the way had to tell an Indian ( they are everywhere and I mean everywhere around the world ) to bugger off after he told me he would tell me my fortune for free , as if an Indian would do anything for free !! He insulted me so I said up yours and as I said this I turned around and literally bumped into Rosie . I never knew Rosie before but we got chatting and she was doing the same as me ! Had booked a Hotel in the same block and needed to leave pronto !
So we had a quick chat and she comes from Lymington which is
Amen
Thai Jesus one of the nearest towns on the south coast to my hometown which she knows very well . She had been living abroad of 20 years like myself and was in the process of moving back to England like myslelf but decided to travel a bit first like myself ! So off we go for a drink to talk about all of this , an unbelivable coincidence bumping into her ! We arrange to meet later on and forget the plans to go to the bus station .On the way back to my hotel I bump into a French girl I had met in Cambodia ! Bloody hell the world really is small ! I felt a bit uneasy since I was a single middle aged man walking around the biggest red light district in the world ! I did explain though and think she belived me , luckily later on that eveing I bumped into her again when I was with Rosie which sort of strengthed my plea of not being a red light loiterer..but to bump into her again was amazing since bangkok is huge with literally millions of people !
