Edit Blog Post
Just a quickie, not realted to my blog, I found out my uni results yesterday and I got a 2:1, very happy. Can finally sit back and relax until the 1st of September hehe.
At the weekend we went to a resort, basically in the middle of nowhere, but it was gorgeous. A bit like a centre parcs sort of thing where there was a pool, jacuzzi, massage place, horse riding, golf etyc. It was really good and our rooms were lovely aswell, plus they had air conditioing. It feels so good to sleep with a cover on and not be sweating bucket loads!!! In the evening the resort held a show for us with some traditional thai dancing which was really nice and then they opened the club onsite, which was good, nice to listen to english music for once. I was dancing amnd somebody dropped a glass which shattered and went in my foot :-(, but all is fine. The resort was a bit freaky at night, due to the resort being in the middle of the countryside, all of the bugs from the nearby fields were attracted to the lights. When waklking back to the room it
was like walking on a bed of beetles lol, crunch crunch crunch. There were lots of mosquitos aswell, but luckily again I did not get bitten!
This week we have been teaching at a local school called Annabel Singburi school, which is about 20 miunutes drive from the eco house. It is a HUGE school. There are 7 year groups starting from kindergarten and going up to year 6, and within each year group there are 8 classes, of which each have around 45 children!!!! So there are about 2500 children in the school. It is incredibly freaky when the children all want to hold your hand and say hello. I must say hello about 5000 times a day lol. Then in the classes that I teach all the children want me to write my name and signature on a piece of paper. I feel like a celebrity lol. The first day we were there we were sat in the staff room which has glass windows and doors, all of the children were crammed up against the doors trying to get a glimpse of us. I felt like a goldfish in a bar hehe. The children are all really
lovely though and sooooo well behaved. I could not imagine having 45 children in a class at home but here it is great! There isnt much space to move around in the class mind you. To get to the back of the class I have to walk out the door at the front of the room and then in through the door at the back lol. The children I am teaching are 9 and 10 year olds. They are all so clever, doing pythagoras and trigonometry at 9 years old lol. Luckliy I am just the English teacher!!!!
Off to Koh Samet on Sunday, which i am sooooo looking forward to. I will be able to sunbathe at last, I have been here for 3 weeks and not got a tan yet. I burnt really bad in my first week, whilst at the pool so I have been covering up. It is too hot to sit in the sun during free time, as it is about 40 degrees, and with no pool nearer then 15 minutes away we tend to stay in the shade.
See you all soon, am looking forward to cereal for breakfast and boiled vegetables
(never thought I would say that)!!!!
UPDATE- First of all I just want to wish grandma a happy birthday for next week, and I look forward to seeing you all at the BBQ on the 10th. Will be great to see everyone!!!
It was my last day at school yesterday and I had the 5 and 6 year olds all day as my class had gone on a school trip. Other poeple got given the day off who were there teaching as their classes all went on school trips but Claire and I got asked to say and teach the little ones as we are 'good english teacher' according to the school teachers hehe. Thats my job lined up if all fails at Hucklow hehe. it was great teaching the little ones, even bigger classes then the classes in year 4, i counted 50 children in one of the classes. However, doing if your happy and you know it with 50 5 year olds is great fun!!! I could not stop laughing. Then when we did heads, shoulders, knees and toes it got even more chaotic but was great to see all the children joining in. The schools
are so different out here, the discipline is really harsh compared to home, I saw one teacher hitting a child over the head. But then the result is very well behaved respectful children.
We had an awful school dinner yesterday, all the other days we were given rice, curry and a WHOLE fish, which i LOVED! However, yesterady we got a big pot of some kind of soup. I have to admit I do try most foods but it was utterly disgusting!!! pieces of jellied brown meat, slimy noodles and bean sprouts in warm salted oil, was so horrible lol. We could not stop laughing as none of us could eat it, I think the teachers understood that we didn't like it as they bought us pancakes. The panckaes had a brown filling which i thought was chocolate, so being me I took a big bite. How wrong was I? it was the strangest filling ever, some kind of hairy spiced meat lol. However i felt like I had to eat it just to be respectful. It was a humerous dinner!!!
When we left the teachers had bought us all a silk scarf which you wear around your
shoulders, maybe due to my shoulders looking kind of burnt. All in all it was a great experience and I wish that i could have had longer at the school.
I had bought some educational toys for the children, but the school seemed so well equipped that we ended up giving them to the orphanage children. The school has the internet, about 50 computers, a sound room, science lab, huge library, indoor and outdoor play areas. Not what I would call deprived. However, the children in the orphanage dont have anything, so I felt that my things would be much more advantageous there.
