After a nice rested night in China Town sampling some delicious street food and a couple of beers , Ollie and I moved on from Bangkok and took the bus to Pattaya. The journey from the centre of Bangkok to the coast took us about 3 hours, thankfully we had air conditioning. Now to our surprise this fairly long bus ride cost around 119bht working out around £2.38, bargain! The sights from the bus window were a mix of, industry, housing and clearly a developing landscape.
Once arriving around 3pm we needed a place to stay, as with most places we will be visiting it was a case of looking and seeing what we could fine. As I needed a wee badly the first decent enough accommodation seen was the choice for our first night (a holiday resort) , yes a real back packers favourite on the plus side it had a lovely pool and was fairly cheap. Once checked in and finding time for a little dip we went for an explore. The coast of Pattaya is very picturesque and has calm waters. This destination is clearly set up for tourist and holiday makers, as you can't walk far
with out being enticed to go to restaurant or buy some cheap knock off rubbish. However we found a few nice bars and had a chill with a beer watching the boats go by.
Today was hot and sunny again, as we are on the coast it has to be taken advantage of so we went to the beach, the water was lovely and warm and just right to cool the body down after a long cook in the sunshine. We have also found a little hostel further in land called Asian Backpacker. The room was £5.00 for the night and a big change from the hotel we wee in the previous day. We have yet to meet some other back packers but as this is hostel we are likely too soon. Tonight's plans are to check out Pattaya's night life and have another explore.
Last two days in Pattaya Wednesday night we enjoyed sipping beers at 60bht a bottle and socialising with a couple of English lads who were also staying at Asian backpackers. They took us down to Pattaya’s party street named “walking street” this road was crowded with clubs and bars, street venders and
a large amount of Lady boys and other working women. Needless to say we gave a club a go, the best bit for me was coming back from the club where we found a whole ray of street cafes covered with locals eating at 2am (very strange to see), as I was hungry we stopped for some food. The language barrier in Thailand has been a common problem so you never know what food you’re going to get, however I enjoyed a spicy chicken noodle soup and had a nice chat with some locals who’s English was far better than mine and Ollie’s Thai.
After getting up and deciding that our current room was far too hot and small for another night, we packed up and moved about 50m down the road to a hotel with a/c, still extremely cheap. We enjoyed the last day chilling on the beach and then finding a lovely sea food restaurant, serving a fresh range of fish, I had a battered fish with Thai red curry, one of my top meals so far. During our last evening in Pattaya a plan was discussed as to where to move onto next so
that we could get to a Cambodian border crossing, originally we thought it may be a trip back to Bangkok which would have been fairly irritating doing a U turn. Thanks to some internet research, map reading and the trusty guide book we worked out a more logical and exciting way towards out next destination. Follow the coast round towards a town named Chanthaburi then enter Cambodia through an alternative crossing, simple? We will have to wait and see.
