like a photo op with the military
After leaving China we were planning on heading to Turkey and Jordan but changed our plans at the last minute after some recent bombings and some discouragement from the State Department’s home page. Left with about three weeks to fill before meeting Amy’s parents, we brainstormed ideas and finally decided to head back to Thailand, an absolute haven for travelers, for a week of relaxing at the beach and a bit of shopping and eating in Bangkok.

While we were in Ko Samet the military staged a coup in Bangkok and overthrew the government. We’re back in Bangkok after spending almost a week at the beach and wanted to share with you what life has been like in Thailand during the coup (we learned about the whole affair from e-mails originating in the US). Bangkok remains about as serene as Bangkok ever is. The change of administration has had no visible impact on the roaring tuk-tuks, bustling shopping centers and markets, or the general attitude of the public and the tourists.
