We are now at the end of our journey..or is it just the beginning?? hmm.
We spent 4 days in Koh Chang doing absolutely nothing and loved every second of it. We were feeling slightly burnt out and needed a few days before Bangkok to just chill. Koh Chang is the second largest Thai island after Phuket so there was much to see, not that we did! That would've interrupt our daily lay-on-the-beach-and-read-for-3 hours routine. And so we have covered roughly a 500 metre radius around our guesthouse. We stayed at the Blue Lagoon Resort, set in a beautiful garden with it's own lagoon and boardwalk leading to the beach. The beach wasn't with the likes of Koh Rong or Sao Beach but it was still beautiful and we loved it. How ironic that on the last stop of our trip we found a restaurant in town that served the cheapest and BEST Thai food we've tasted in all of our 8 weeks spent in Thailand. We now feel rejuvinated and refreshed! Some might laugh and say: "you're on a 4 month vacation what more rejuvination do you need?!" to which we would say that we've been travelling every 2-3
days between 8-12 hour journeys. We needed a break..and we got one! We spent hours in the water literally soaking it all in and working on perfecting our underwater hand stands. We ate, slept, read and even saw a few cool storms at night. It was paradise.
We also got a second break as we got to finish our last days in Bangkok in style! We booked a 4 night stay at the Lebua at State Tower Hotel AKA The Hangover 2 Hotel. Where we had a room on the 52nd floor with buffet breaky and awesome rooftop pool area to enjoy. We also checked out the Sky Bar at the Lebua on the 64th floor. The views were insane and so were the drink prices!
We spent the last few days exploring this area of Bangkok we hadn't seen much of last time. We visited some of the massive malls scattered around. We even went back to visit Khao San Road area with a Swedish couple that took the boat from Koh Chang with us. They ended up checking into the Lebua as well and so we hung out together for 2 days. Khao San was super
fun to visit and we missed it a bit. The Swedes hadn't been there and so it was fun showing them around. We sat at a bar, listened to some awesome live music and people watched. Dave and I even did a very "Khaosany" thing and ate a deepfried scorpion! Our 4 days in Bangkok were bittersweet. The hotel was amazing and we had a fun time exploring Bangkok but we were also thinking of going home...
So throughout our journey we've visited 6 counties and 40 cities. Stayed in 43 guesthouses and saw 9 night markets. We took 5 trains, 15 ferries, 11 mini buses, 9 regular buses, and 7 sleeper buses! As we conclude this journey we were thinking of a good way to describe it..of course that would be a long process. However we did come up with one effective word to sum it all up...
C L A R I T Y
We can be cliche and say, I once was blind but now I see...but that is how we truly feel.
We're clear about why we were here We're clear about each other and we're clear about the next chapter in our lives
This trip has provided us with the clarity we were inadvertedly seeking. It reinforced the fact that the world is a beautiful place filled with beautiful people. It educated us on different cultures and their history. We are now more patient, educated, adventurous and curious. We are ready to tackle whatever comes next, without any expectations or assumptions. We learned to be present and appreciate. We met some incredible people from every corner of the world, some of which have become long distance friends for life. We would do it all again in a heartbeat. In fact one day we plan on it.
This concludes our travel blog (this travel blog, stay tuned for the next one!).
The only thing left to say is....bon voyage!
Love,
D & A
