Sawadi Ka,
After Cambodia, I decided to go to Thailand, the country of smile! And it's true, Thai people are really smiling and friendly.
I arrived in Bangkok. I'm not usually a big town girl, but I did enjoy Bangkok a lot. There is a lot to see and the atmosphere in the town is nice. The first things that surprised me was the fact that there are more cars than motorbikes! After 2 months in Vietnam and 1 in Cambodia, I was used to deal more with motorbike! The town is definitely not as crazy as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh or Phnom Penh.
As I said, there are lot of things to do in Bangkok: lots of temples, markets, lots of place to walk around, cruise on the Chao Phraya river to admire the city ...
So here are some of the things I saw, but there are so much more:
Wat Arum, the home of the gods, those huge steps to climb to the top and the beautiful view.
Wat Traimit, a new temple, quite simple but with a really "classy" Buddha reflecting the temple.
Wat Pho with this huge reclining Buddha
and some beautiful classic prang (tower).
The Grand Palace and the temple of the emerald Buddha: a must see in Bangkok, if only for the big wall painting in the grand palace, full of details wonderfully done.
Wat Pra Pathom, on the outside of Bangkok, with the tallest chedi (huge tower usually made with gold) in the world, but more interesting the lovely arches all around in marble.
And all those other temples where you can see monks in the morning waiting for food bring by the inhabitant s of Bangkok (called alms giving ceremony), or where you can admire a lot of Buddha, sitting, reclining, standing....
If you want to meet other tourists, you can walk in the tourists district (around Khao san road) to buy some cheap T-shirts, have a beer, enjoy good food, have a massage... at all time of the day. This district is lively 24/7!
You can also go to the shopping center area, where you'll find everything you need (where I found my new computer and... my new camera, but that's another story!)
You can also go to the weekend market (called the Chatuchak market), which is
one of the biggest market of the world with 8 000 stalls! I had fun with my camera and practice my skills by taking only details (hope you'll like the pics!)
Another day trip from Bangkok, is the Saduak floating market. But you have to be there early to beat the crowd of tourists. The market has nothing authentic left, they sell food for tourists and souvenirs. But you'll come across some beautiful faces (see the old lady I took in picture, she is beautiful)!
You can go to the Muang Boran Ancien city (also called Siam Ancient City), to admire some reproductions of the most famous buildings and temples of Thailand. If you have only one day in Thailand, go there, you'll see all the monuments!
That'll be it for this post, but I'll talk again about Bangkok soon, because there is so much more to see.
Take care and see you soon!
Sawadi Ka,
