We visited the "Wat prakaew" and the Grand Palace, which seem to be the largest and most popular tourist attractions in Bangkok. This time we did everything independently using simply taxis or the skytrain or metro. This saved us a lot of hassle and seemed to work well. We got up early and went to the temple, but in our early morning rush Bex forgot to put on a t-shirt covering her shoulders instead wearing a strappy top. She also mis-read the sign in the entrance and walked to the wrong side of it and the security man got annoyed with her twice, asking "You have two problems. One, you walked around the sign the wrong way, and two you have a problem with your shirt." So a huffy Bex walked off and we bought the first polo shirt we saw across the street. This polo shirt later turned out to be extremely popular with the locals. They kept asking where she got it and how good it was! After a while we noticed that most of the tour guides in the grand palace were wearing them and must have been something to do with the King's 60 year reign celebration

or the temple itself! We're still not sure!
We went inside and the camera broke and we tried to bodge it back together, which worked after about ten minutes. After these setbacks we were finally able to look around the temple and have a good time and take lots of pictures. The "wat prakaew" houses the most reveered Buddha statue in Thailand and was made of jade and was only about 60cm tall. We had to take our shoes off to enter the temple housing it and stayed there for about twenty minutes. Most people prayed and gave money to the collection boxes. There were many other buildings to look at and we were there for quite a while. This included the Grand Palace which the king uses for formal ceremonies and official business.
In the evening we went to the San Luam night bazaar, which was really good fun and there were hundreds of stalls, which even included live animals! Bex thought these were really cute because they were all tiny puppies and kittens and rabbits (all the smallest we'd ever seen).
We got a few things and we perfected our bargaining skills! As usual we'd gone into the

event at a side entrance or back entrance and managed to miss a massive covered dining area, with bars food stalls and a massive stage with lights and people singing on it! So after wandering and shopping we stumbled upon this and sat down to have a drink. Everyone was sitting apart from a really drunk Australian girl who was trying to drag some guy up to dance with her. We watched the band on stage do Black eyed peas covers and some Blue covers which was quite fun and some of the words were mispronounced which was quite amusing. Near the end the cover came over the audience and stage and we assumed it was because it was closing. It turned out to be a massive rainstorm was coming our way and within about ten minutes about five inches of rain had fallen and the pathways were flooded. We'd never seen so much rain in one go! All the while the Australian girl was being sick everywhere which was being moved around by the rain water...nice. We got a taxi home later.
