Day 2 ended well. After we left our room and came down to the hostels reception we were greeted by an award winningly ugly woman that spoke with a very dark voice and had peculiar black dots in her face. Assa's first meeting with one of Thailands numerous ladyboys. She was nice and gave us directions on how to get to Khao San road which is a favourite party street among the backpackers in Bangkok.
After hanging out with the 1 billion other backpackers at Khao San road and introducing Assa to Chang beer and Thai cuisine for way to many hours we walked home and stuffed our faces with Thai pancakes and other streetfood goodies.
On day three Assa woke up with the mother of all hangovers. We had breakfast and spoke to an australian backpacker who was on his way to go travelling in Europe. Not the best season to go do that maybe but he seemed excited enough.
We packed up our stuff and poor Assa was really suffering thru it all. It was a good thing our next destination was the very comfortable Milennium Hilton. After a scenic taxiride thru Bankok we arrived at the hotel not looking like your ordinary Hilton guests, Assa feeling like she wanted to be shot and dumped in the Chao Prhaya river and me carrying a backpack the size of a small car.
After getting our room with a very scenic view of Bangkok Assa (being Assa) had a nap and woke up crispy and fresh and we headed out to the very cool spa with lots of entertaining stuff. A small beach, water covering the sunbed area, a pool, a small reflexology pool with tiny round stones massaging your feet, hammoks and then the cooles part of it all, 3 individual jacuzzis framed in by hedges that overlooked the city of Bangkok.
After enjoying the afternoon in the spa we went over to the river city shopping mall which is without a doubt the wierdest shopping mall we had ever seen. There was Thai art, jewelry, tailors and more Thai art. All you ever need in life in other words. Assa did manage to find herself a hairdryer which makes me feel slightly more peace in my soul since she keeps going bonkers about her frizzy hair in the humid air. (But my joy lasted for a day since she's throwing a hissy fit about it tonight as well 😊 ) After that she got her lifes first pedicure and manicure by two thai ladies that were about half her height.
We had dinner by the riverfront and then went up to the 360 bar on the 32nd floor of the hotel which provided a spectacular view of the Bangkok skyline at night.
Today (day 4) we went back to the pool for a few hours. Then we took a boatride to the skytrain station that took us to the hostel we'll be in for the next two days. This hostel being further away from the tourist crowded part of Bangkok providing more of a feeling of being in the "real" Bangkok. We went to a shopping mall and found ourselves a really good pizza joint. Huge pizzas with cheese filled crust... Like a billion calories. We won't have to eat for a week.
After that, guess what, Assa took a nap!
And this after carefully explaining to me that she would not let ME take a nap when I was sleepy earlier just because she wanted to get into the local timezone day rhythm.
At the moment Assa had a skype conversation with her father and we are contemplating going back to Khao San road to enjoy the saturday nightlife.
Cheers!
