Bangkok is mental, it's official. You can’t walk anywhere (and we tried, at one point a bus driver even pulled over and laughed at us for walking!) it’s so busy and hot it makes your head explode. We had such a sense of relief once we got back to our hostel after our few brave ventures outside.

As well as the heat and chaos, we had to contend with tuk-tuk drivers and their accomplices constantly trying to scam us. They pretend to either be a friendly local or offer cheap prices for journeys, but their only intention is to take you to random shops you’re not interested in. We successfully deflected them all and eventually saw some astonishing sights in Bangkok, the first by accident when we decided to take the cheap public riverboat for a spot of sight-seeing. We hopped off at a random stop with the intention of heading back down river and found hundreds of fish (not sure what species, but they looked a bit like catfish) swimming on the surface right around the dock, we fed them with huge sacks of bread which they fought and thrashed over, this wasn’t even in the guide book and

it was fantastic.

We also spent an evening at one of the highest points of Bangkok, 59 floors up at the rooftop 'Moon Bar at Vertigo'. We had an amazing evening watching the sun set over Bangkok and drinking slightly more expensive, £5 beers.

Another highlight, after two attempts to find it, was the temple that contained the ‘Reclining Buddha’ a gold painted, hundred foot long marvel with a quirky smile. The Reclining Buddha is in the Wat Pho Temple and they also have a massage school which we tried out. They prodded, poked, pulled, pushed, cracked and clicked us both their hands and feet. Carla is used to pain from physio, Jim however wanted a refund and a beer.
Sadly we also spent a few days in as Jim suffered the first sickness from foreign foods on the trip, whilst Carla went and got our Vietnam visas.

More trains next, this time off to Vientiane, Laos.

Love to you all, an overwhelmed Jim and Carla
