giant cockroaches to eat Bangkok Day 3
Today we didn't really have much of a plan so we slept in till 9:00 and then went down to the hotels buffet. I forgot to mention this in previous days, but the buffet is so good and oddly enough they have things that we would normally eat for dinner at breakfast. I have a hard time eating some of these things so early in the morning such as stir fry, chicken dishes, fried rice, etc. but mom is loving it.
We then went to this giant mall
but it was so funny to see all the Thai girls running around and the mall was HUGE, it was basically 6 floors of Forever 21 clothes. We then wandered around to a different area of town where we had to walk past all the destruction from the protests. One of Bangkok's biggest malls, Central World, had gotten hit the hardest and one side of it was pretty destroyed. As of now there is absolutely zero evidence of any more violence so that's good. One of the areas we went into, there was a big concert going on and although mom and I couldn't understand the Thai language, we assumed it was a peace concert and they were raising money to restore the damage.
Mom and I then took the river taxi down to Khoa San Road which is considered the backpackers area, lots of guesthouses and bars basically. It was really neat and they had markets set up on the street that we thought offered better stuff than any of the other shopping we had done. If I ever do this trip again as a backpacker I would definitely stay in this area. Mom and I got a little lost on the way out and ended up in some Monk community where they all live, not sure we were supposed to be there, but it was pretty cool seeing that.
Later on we went to the Night Market which is another famous thing to do around here. It basically was like the weekend market, only a little cleaner and at night. They did have a beer garden area and a live band playing/singing which was nice entertainment for us. We didn't find anything we liked in there unfortunately.
On the

me eating street food! way home, we were too exhausted to sit down and eat in a restaurant so we decided to have another go with the street food. This time mom and I got some sort of soup that is popular here, we chickened out and just got the vegetarian option but it was still really good!
More things we have noticed:
1) There are a TON of American/English looking men here with Thai women escorting them..some of them are even married to Thai women. That may sound nice, but it definitely looks questionable when you see how beautiful these women are and how the men are well.. not to put it nicely.
2) Be careful if you come here, because we have had so many people try to rip us off or scam us in some way. I am sure it is no reflection of the greater population of Thai people, but just be careful.
3) This town is huge! Everyone tells me to just wait till we see Shang'Hai, but I have a hard time believing it is as crazy as this town.
4) They eat bugs here...see the pictures of the cockroaches, grasshoppers, worms, etc.
Tomorrow we leave
for Hong Kong where I don't think we will have internet so it may be awhile before I can write again. We are staying safe, and loving every minute of this journey so far!!
