Overcast, thank god for that, however still humid at least it is not sunny as I am running out off clothes all all my stuff is drenched after about 2 hrs and only have about 3 out fits, every thing in the market is for skinny people, so I can't buy anything to fit. I have had to resort to washing clothes in the bathroom sink so that I have something to wear at least, as the laundry service in the hotel is expensive.
We head off to Pratunam Markets, finally I buy something.
Amazing as it seems I haven't yet bought anything yet as I wanted to check out prices and get a feel for things and whats about. Well once I started it was very hard to stop, especially when the little voice in the back of your mind keeps telling you too heavy, weight, suitcase, 2 more countries.
I felt proud that I had purchased a few things and was off back to the hotel to review what I had bought, plus I need to change clothes again.
After cooling off for a while in the hotel room Brad decided he was going to take a taxi
to look for some motor bikes parts. OK I said you do that and I will go back to the market by my self as he wasn't to impressed by all the clothes. I have never seen a place with so many clothes, I couldn't work out where all the factories were that made them all. Well as it happened I took a wrong turn in the market down some lane and found all these little sweat shops about a metre by a metre with a sewing machine in each and scraps of material thrown all over the place.
Imagine, stray cat's, dark alley, uneven walk ways with sewer drains running down the side. Hmmm some how I don't think I should be here. Trying to walk through an Asian country not looking like a tourist is very difficult, so I casually made my way through pretending I knew exactly where i was and found the market again.
Headed back to the hotel with just a little more shopping to meet Brad as we were heading off to see the reclining Buddha as we didn't realize it was right next door to the palace when we were there yesterday.
Off we go to see the Buddha, wonderful cab driver, first one that hasn't nagged us to go see his sponsor and have a suit made or buy gems. Joe was his name we arranged for him to pick us up and take us to the airport tomorrow with an agreed price.
We get to the Buddha and we get some one telling us " it is closed for public holiday, open again a 6.00Pm" Yeah right, it normally closes at 5, so of course I don't believe them and stand 10 metres down the road seeing if anyone goes in... They turn another couple away that appear to be so I wait and ask them what they were told. Same story....OK, I them. I find out the Monks are inside as it is New years eve and really is a public holiday and they were telling the truth.
After two day's I don't believe anything anyone tells me any more so this is why I was hesitant. Anyway again I needed a new set of clothes and we were getting hungry so we decided not to wait until 6.00Pm to see the Buddha so we missed out this time. We will have to come back next year.
Of to MBK for some air conditioning and food.
