Bangkok
Our Hotel I added a few more pics from Bangkok as I am on a computer that is working super fast. Enjoy
Welcome back to our next blog.
Bangkok, with a population of 10 million and hundreds of thousands of cars, boats, buses and trains buzzing around 24-7 literally blew our minds!! It is like looking at a roller coaster - sometimes 4 or 5 levels of roads winding around every which way!. Of course we were in rush hour trafficd so we certainly were able to catch o glimpse of the true Bangkok. What seemed to strike us was one minute it seemed we were in an ultra modern posh city and the next minute we could see homeless people sleeping in a ;dingy lane.
We were really happy with our hotel - The Royal Hotel" as it was situated in "old" Bangkok and very close to many of the popular tourist attractions. M:any places we walked to such as the Grand Pfalace, The Emerald Buddha and the famous Khao San Road ( an amazing street of hostels, food stalls, entertainment, shopping which never closes). We really enjoyed sitting at a bar and watching all the interesting people sites
Bangkok
Famous Backpackers Road and sounds.
We took a tuk-tuk a few times, toured the city, visited famous temples and went to the famous Chatuchak Weekend Market. This market was unvelievalbe! You have to see it to believe it. I bouight a couple of really nice brand name T shirts for $2.00 each. They may be knock offs but who cares! Tailor made clothes and gems are also a steal here. Another common sight we are getting used to are the numerous monks wandering around in their gold wraps. You hear them humming and chanting all over - young and old, tall and short and all with shaved heads.
Our last morning in Bangkok we joined up with our tour group and headed out for canal tour of the city and later walked through a vegetable and fruit maket where they package up their produce for shipping and export. We have never seen so many peppers!! Across the street we walked through the flower market where the flowers are sold and shipped abroad. The assortment and scent was beautiful. A huge arrangement of orchids and exotic flowers were priced at 200 bhats about $8.00!! Next we visited the reclining buddah - absolutely
Bangkok
Grand Palace gigantic and stunning. The local people were praying to him, paying their respect and of course giving money like crazy!
A lasting impression of Bangkok for us was the diversity - it is very common to see a band new BMW driving down the street with a vendor pushing his food card beside. In Bangkok you will see ultra modern shopping centers and down the road a family washing their clothes in the river and a rat running across the sidewalk- unfortunately a very uneven ecomony!
