Hometown: Seattle, Washington USA
I finally took that trip around the world that I always wanted to do. The catalyst was my experience with breast cancer in 2005, which taught me that if you really want to do something, don't wait! As soon as I regained my health (and I'm actually more healthy now than I was before diagnosis), I started planning my trip. I traveled solo for a year, and I met amazing people along the way. My itinerary included Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia and Europe. I also added the USA as part of my trip on the way back home.

New Year's Eve on Kao San RoadThis poor elephant was forced to walk the busy streets in Bangkok on New Year's Eve. She and a baby elephant were subjected to over 10 hours on Kao San Road, even during the fireworks at midnight. Many elephants like this who are brought to Bangkok end up getting hit by a car or truck.
Laura and Sam with "Captain Condom"Sam is from Chicago and lived in Seattle for several years before moving to Bangkok for Microsoft. My friend, Kari, connected us and we met for lunch at the famous "Cabbages and Condoms" restaurant in the Sukhamvit area.
Phenomenal Thailand Hi Laura,
So glad you've spent time in this beautiful country. I'm still enamored with Thailand and its people. What are you impressions of it? I can't imagine you're missing the snow here (yes, it's snowing in Seattle AGAIN tonight - 1/4/09). I'd rather be in BKK any day!! Keep on travelin'....

Great memories! Ah, so many of your pictures remind me of my visit to Thailand!! Very neat, thanks for reminding me of it all!
If you get up north, take a long-tail boat down the Mekong. :)
great pics! great pics to my favorite world traveler!! Love the painted elephant butt and Captain Condom....now that is "world culture" :) stay safe and have fun!
Love the photos! Wow...so amazing. Someday, I wll follow your foot steps with Kirk....someday! What a better way to spend a 'flood-stranded' day then to get caught up with you and your travels. (yes, with lots of snow, comes lots of rain and Snoq. river flooding.) Take care. BTW - I love your longer hair...you look beautiful. Sophie
