Chloe & Jean
Cuddles and love while having a nice wee drink in Bangkok Bangkok - In the words of Mama Jean
Climbing into the AE2 bus from the airport to Khao San Road, then a Tuk Tuk to My House in Rambutri and seeing Chloe running towards me and giving her a big hug was all bound to end in a spurt of tears.
It was hard to leave this lovely little oasis of cafes, bars and stalls. sheltered by trees with squirrelly type things running about in them, for the steamy hot bustle of the city. But we did make it out to the temple of the reclining golden Buddha and wandered through several buildings with brightly coloured roofs and glittering buddhas before reaching the actually reclining one which was absolutely enormous - so long, I could only really appreciate its very big head and feet.
A day ticket for the river boats also gave us a nice lazy afternoon’s sightseeing.
Torrential monsoon rain in the evenings kept us in the local bars and cafes, but that was fine - it was just lovely to sit around eating Pad Thai and drinking Singha, Chang and cocktails and catching up with each other’s gossip.
The 6 of us decided to succumb to the
More drinks
Another shot of most of us happily on the drink pleas of the lovely ladies and go for a group massage in a garden massage parlour with tents made out of mosquito netting - so we could see each other through the walls and monitor the progress of everyone’s massage by the yelps, giggles and gentle snores.
After signing a disclaimer that we wouldn’t sue if we got eaten, we were allowed through the gate into the Tiger Temple compound. We picked our way along a path, past litters of black pigs rootling around among the leaf mould for something tasty, and hoped to catch a glimpse of a tiger or two in the distance. It was a quite a shock to see a dozen or more strolling down the hill towards us held on leads by their keepers. The big old ones lay around snoozing while the cubs fed from bottles and splashed around playing like puppies in the waterfall. It was scary and thrilling to get up close enough to stroke them - sharp claws lurking in the soft pads of oversized paws. But they were extremely laid back - more indifferent than actually friendly.
Only one lone monk strolled with us as we were herded
Drinking again
Running out of ideas we swiftly went for more drink. These big towers were excellent. Our own little tap to pour our beer though the waitress was stalking us ready to refill our glasses all night down for the final photo op. He was quite impressive too, in his golden robe. I was a bit disappointed because I would have like to see more monks in their natural habitat, sharing a temple with tigers. They were beautiful creatures, though.
