Hello!!!! Well, I have now arrived into Melbourne, so thought id do a bit of filling in so far...
Arrived into Bangkok, and got a taxi into town to our hostel. Not as expected really- didnt seem touristy at all!- as in- no westernsers anywhere! Really busy roads, nutty cab drivers and these small cart type vehicles called tuk-tuk's- driving around like complete nutters!!! Stalls lined up all along the main roads, aswell as the side streets, selling food, make-up and jewellery. People in hostel, and shops all seemed so friendly, and could just about speak english.. got a bit tricky though sometimes...
Had a wonder into the main bit- Khoa San road... or so we thought! Me and Al found a pretty busy street with loooads of clothes stalls and stuff, but discovered 2 days later that it was actually 2 more roads along! woops!! 😊
The next day, we got approached by a thai man- who claimed to be a teacher there, and told us what NOT to do and who to trust etc... (later finding out though- that HE was the one NOT to trust- as we got well ripped off!!) anyway, he got us a
tuk-tuk, who- for the same as about 50p, took us to a tiny 'port' where we got a kind of 'banana; boat trip down the river, then he took us to a nice building- then to a 'tourist office' which completely ripped us off- if anyone goes to thailand- do not go to the TAT offices to book trains or anything- youre best off just buying that stuff at your hostel! we ended up just getting an over night coach down to the east coast islands, which was our plan anyway- although we wanted to get the sleeper train- but the woman said they werent letting us tourists on them because of the riots- we still think she was totally lying!! so we paid for the coach- which coast more than double what we paid for the return.. ah well- we learnt!!
AAAnyway- found Khoa san road that day- bit more touristy there!! Stall, pubs, restaurants- all that had an open front, so you were pretty much sitting on the street, reaaaally annoying women walking around trying to sell weird noise things! and guys saying- 'cab?' tuk-tuk'?? NO!! WE DONT FLIPPIN WANT A TUK-TUK!!! But- you could not beat
the food- oh man- just gorgeous food everywhere you went!! mmmm-yum! and there was so much stuff to buy- i really wanted to get loads, but didnt have anymore room in my luggage.. 😞
Saw the royal palace, all so detailed- amazing! and so much gold!! everything was gold!!
Had a thai massage- well good!! full body- cost about 3 quid!! haha!
Went to main shopping centre- Siam square, loadsa clothes shops and stalls, bought a bobby brown eye shadow set for bout 3 quid- sweeet!! 😊 then met up with good old zargra from my pppa temping days!
Our next step was getting the over night coach, then felly down and over the ko pangnan, which- when we eventually got there- man, i thought the journey would never end!!- it was amazing!! we stayed in a small beach resort- with huts, right on the sea front! the lady would cook us such nice fresh thai food every night we were there!! and for pretty much a tenner a night!! awsome!!
we moved about on the island, staying in athe livlier haad rin one night, then moving up to the quieter, gorgeous beaches nearer the top.
met a few top people along the way, a guy, alex- from Baltamore!! 😊 and donna from canada! then in haad rin, got invited to sit with a few people- whilst we were at a bar, on the beach, met dane from south africa- prob the most awsomest bloke ever!! haha- he was top! (he was on his honey moon, before you ask, but she got wasted, so went back to their room- he stayed out to party party with us!!)
went to the half moon party- which was up in the woods!! raved till the sun came up!!
Had a few monsoon days- man it can rain over there!!!!! but mostly, really really humid (more in bangkok) but got nicer heat down south, with some lovely sun... was defo mid 30's!
Went over to Ang thong, a marine park, made up of loads of tiny islands, did snorkelling, and kayaking!
Hired a scooter one day, to have a wonder, oh what fun- fell off twice! once, alison was driving, started the engine, but lost control starting off, fell on our sides, then i hada a go- was doing sooo well, then randomly lost it when i
tried stopping- and actually went flying headfirst to the ground!!! had lovely scabby knees and hands and a nice large bruise on my shin- which is still killing!!!
Next, we got the boat over to ko tao, which was famous for snorkelling and diving. did a boat trip round the whole island- its pretty small- saw tons of fish- and 2 black tip reef sharks!!!
For the last couple of days- we headed back to Bangkok! Stayed right on Khoa san this time, nice cheap hotel, with pool on the roof!!! so pretty good, then on my last night, had the pleasure of seeing stace, dave, sam and scott, who came out for their holiday!!
Bangkok was great, cheap, food, clthes etc- all good, but i am not going to miss seeing loads and loads of western men chatting up- or being harrassed by thai women!! it was everywhere!!! yuk yuk!! One night, in a bar, i saw a guy getting very touchy feely with a thai girl- while his mate sat there- looking very bored, me then noticing- he had a wedding ring on!! and as i left my hotel, at 5 in the morning- to
head for the airport, i see a guy bidding farewell to his mate- as he walked off out with 2 thai girls- asking as they went- 'for free yer?' euugh!!
So, now i am in melbourne, alot cooler here! but still lovely... gonna go explore in a bit... i shall write another essay in a while...
Just want to do a special mention of my friend Matt who died on the 18th. He was one of the 'barnet boys' that me and vic met when were 17, we went out alot with them all, back in the day. He had a baby a few years age too, so we didnt see too much of him the last few years, but he was defo one of the nice guys, would say happy birthday, and i invited him to my leaving do- but he said he couldnt make it, as he was with molly (his little girl) that weekend- but said to have a great time. Everyone always said he was a great dad!! He will be very badly missed, so heres to you Matt!!! xxxxxxxx
And to all of you guys- love you loads, miss you tons!! so
be safe, and keep me informed of anything interesting back home too!!!! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
