Have you ever seen a movie where the carahters say:Where going down, we are going to crash? Maby not, but it surley felt like we where in a movie, not that kind you want to be in while in the air..We had that kind of not wanted hysteric looney sitting three chairs next to us. When it all comes around, it didn't really help that the first quick plane trip to Ukraine actually turn into a five hour wait between flights. One of the guys that we had been chatting to back in Arlanda, Sweden said that he and around 200 other happy travellers turned into an angry mob when finally landing in Sweden. They had to wait (as we)in Ukraine between flights with new calls every second minute"the plane is delaied until further notice", people where calling their families saying, pick me up later. Still sunburned and bragging of all there finds they finally landed and to all their surprise, all the bags that came out on the moving conveyor belt where ripped open. Some bags had been taped up and closed again. Everyone had been totally wiped off all there gods and bags that was filled with everything from
carefully collected seashells to expensive rolex fakes where now gone. Sometimes that actually happens and the delay was thouroughly arranged by some maffia in Ukraine. While half asleep at that airport we started fantasizing that they where cleaning us out aswell, bags open but laught it off thinking this other flight is gonna be great and soon in tropical heat! Well on the airplane we had really bad luck, since me and Ross where both really tired after a nervouse night and grabbing a taxi at 5.00 in the morning we looked forward to lean are chairs back and sleep. Eight hourh flight and just wanting to arrive makes it even better to just dream away.
Well in the crowded airplane we noticed that are seats where in tha back, really in the back. I sat down by the window and ross next to me, his seat didn't folwed back. Strange, we asked the stewardess, she glansed a bit stressful and then said"yes, sorry..air tanks behind you". How is this possible, even selling a seat like this. Looked behind the chair, yes there where two big tanks behind him. Crazy! But then a last resort, two guys where
sitting in a ro of three chairs, that gave us an oppertunity of sitting pritty close and still get some wanted sleep. The guys where nice and gave room for ross, one of them even leaned over to interduce himself to me. Shaking hand and smiling with his whole face. Great! Ross quickly started chatting with him and a grabbed a blanket and leaned back. Suddenly I brutally waked up and felt something hitting my head. Was it a coka cola bottle, I turned up from me seat, the plane was dark and people where sleeping, some even snoring. Ross was gone and in front of me stod a drunk man. The tea that I almoast finished up was now spilled, tea all over my drawings and a screaming man. It was him, that "nice" guy from earlier. He yelled to the stewardess and to everyone waken enough to pay attention.
"Where all going down, where gonna crasch". It didn't end there, he got a bit agressive and the poor skinny steward had to ressle him down. Thinking it was over I tried to find Ross. He had moved, said that the guy talked to much and where drinking
whisky. Gentleman as he is, didn't want to leave me sitting by that loney all by myself and found himself trying to help to calm the crazy guy out. Nothing could make him quiet. After mean comments and hysterical screams he suddenly fell asleep. We quickly threw the whiskey bottle away and after long hourhs of trying to avoid him and not listen to his comments a finally burst. It was sunrise, peolpe where waking up, not to botherd by the looney next to us, but beleive me I was. Just one hour until the plane landed I turned around after him trying to talk to me. I just frankly said that I thought he was a nice guy before and that I now hated him. He went quiet, first time since we stepped on the plane. Then I heard him saying to himself, everybody does.
The plane finally went down, not crashing, not even a bumpy ride. Smooth through the clouds and beautiful, just like I wanted it to be...
After arriving we went to our accomodation at Urban Age, in silom soi 8 right in the central centre. Good location but the photos on the
website look a heap better. We were really tired and the first night we sleep a good 12 hours as we had been awake for 36 hours!! The next day we saw an adverts of several dentists offering there services on a free map we got at the airport. We did our researched and found a brandnew dental clinic to fix alices filling and i needed a crown done, which was done successfully for a third of the price back home. On our last night we bumped into a young swedish couple that was our flight and who we had a few beers with at the Urkaine airport while our plane was delayed as they were re attaching one of the wings. 😊 So we had a couple of beers with them, and chatted what each couple had been up to over the last couple of days.
We spent alot of the time just walking around the city taking in the views and checking out the shopping. Coming from Sweden where the temperature was 6 degrees on a good day, it was a bit of shocked to the system when we hit bangkok and now were walking around in
a heat of 34 degrees and really muggy. We moved to D&D Inn in Kao San Road which was really nice bit like a hotel and even had a pool on top of the roof. (Alice looking like a red crab after spending just 2 hourhs in the pool)Kao Sand road is crazy and we were both keen to head south to check out the island which we were waiting for. I had always been keen to do a diving course but had always put it off. I thought it was time to get it done and thought it would be a good start to the trip. We booked a combine ticket to Koh tao which included the diving course, 4 nights accmodation and a bus and ferry ticket.
