So, with China sadly behind us, we boarded our Thai Airways flight en route to Bangkok, saying goodbye to freezing temperatures and saying hello to tropical sunshine and humidity. Gotta love Thai Airways…a wardrobe change halfway through the flight for the crew, brilliant food and beverage service, and an orchid corsage for all of the ladies at the end of the flight…welcome to Bangkok.

This being our second time in Thailand, things weren’t as unknown as in China and we settled into position rather quickly. Our brief stay in Thailand is really meant to be a rest-up before digging into more serious trekking in Nepal, so, the agenda is predominately eat, eat, eat, wander, beach, beach, beach. We gorged on cheap Thai food, cheap fruit, drank litres of fresh juice (watermelon, orange, lemon, strawberry, pineapple, coconut), shopped for souvenirs and wandered around various districts. After working our way through the crowds, horn-honking, and aggressive hawkers in China, Bangkok actually felt relaxing, amazing, Bangkok as a relaxing city! I think the sudden rise in temperatures may have also played a role in helping us to take a deep breath and chill out. We didn’t bother doing the wats again, instead we

just wandered around and observed the city life…craziness at MBK, strange brew of Muslim cultures at Soi 3/1 Sukhumvit, the “farang”ness of Khaosan Road, perverts cruising for a shag in Patpong, commuters on the water taxi, tuk-tuks working their scams, and on and on. Bangkok has a bit of everything and serves it all up with an infectious smile that gets into your bones and reminds you that it’s good to be in Thailand.
