Rainbow above the bay
See it? It's faint, but there. We took a nice long walk after eating at our favorite restaraunt in Chalok Lam (Northern Ko Pha-Ngan) where we saw oodles of new water-life and wild life. Plus a sunning rainbow and then sunset! Hello all,
Well, it's just me now. Dave is home and slowing adjusting to the time change and MASSIVE lack of heat in Monterey, going back to work on Monday.
If my writing is not as poetic, or sound a little funny it is because I am not quite right in the head, I mean, you all knew that already, but this is actually a little different, I am sick. I had allergies big time for a couple days when arriving back at Riki's house on Wednesday evening. Then it turned into full blown cold, headache, congested sinuses, and now moving into the throat and chest. It is a blessing to be at Riki's and just be able to lay low, take multiple hour long naps and just chill, I would feel a great urge and pressure to be out seeing things and doing stuff if I were in a different locale right now.
I also am in pain now as I just received 4 vaccine shots...one of which was Typhoid and it turns out that my arm is QUITE sore, and possibly could be for a few days. It is on my mouse arm...bummer. BUT it is less of a
Kids Searching for Wee Clams
These children were frolicking all around the long tail boats and in the ebbing tide, and a mother was methodically looking for small clams (teeny tiny!), then the kids got into it and the youngest boy kept yelling what we though had to be 'I found one, I found another one'. It was adorable. bummer than actually CONTRACTING Typhoid sometime in the future.
With other world travel and longer periods of time in countries like India and parts of Africa and South America...it feels good to be updated on vaccines.
SO...I am still at the hospital, using their computers and waiting to hear from Riki, when she gets out of work, at which point we will meet up and head towards India Town to look at beads, fabric and other fun girly adventures, including eating at the amazing Indian place that Dave and I found on one of his last days in Thailand.
When Dave drove off Friday morning the 25th, I was hit with a blast of emotions, mostly loneliness and sadness. Like I've mentioned before I've never traveled with a companion, and also Dave and I have spent much longer periods of time apart when I go to Alaska, when I was involved with Pole to Pole Leadership Institute etc. BUT THIS ONE was painful, I cried and cried and cried myself back to sleep and then felt genuinely dumpy the next day, but am slowly recovering and now am more dealing with the downer of being sick...of course I still miss
Dave stepping off
He had some spectacular dives and the snorkelling was awesome despite my equipment failure (snorkel and mask kept malfunctioning....) him greatly.
I am going to try to load a bunch of pictures that may or may not have anything to do with this particular blog entry, but thougt you would enjoy.
I have been struggling with where I want to go next, there are two paths that I am thinking; one is VOLUNTEERING. I applied to a couple organizations and have not heard back, and honestly I think that I have learned a lesson in this process, that I need to contact these NGOs long before I plan to arrive, and or already have something set up because I don't think I will be able to organize a volunteering situation in the next few days.
SO...the second option is solitude, sanctuary, quiet and peacefulness. I am looking in my Laos and Thailand Lonely Planet guides hoping to find a place that jumps out at me as THE place I want to just BE...not too many people, not too many things to do, just hammocks and reading time, a slower pace of life.
Si Phan Don (the thousand islands), in deep southern Laos where Thailand, Cambodia and Laos meet is looking like a good possibility, so keep checking back to
Diver Dave
Out on the converted fishing boat-turned dive boat heading towards our second dive/snorkel spot. see where I head off to next!
Missing you all and sending love,
Heather
