Khosan Road Khosan Road A six hour bus ride later, we arrived in Bangkok. Billy promptly led me to Khosan Road where we would be staying for the next 5 days. The first night, we stayed at a hotel called, Khosan Palace. It was pretty good. We did have air conditioning and a warm shower--so it was actually more than good . . .it was wonderful! That night, we headed to Burger King for a couple of ice cream cones and some hot fries! They were just what we were looking for! We ended the evening with a Thai massage.
MBK The next day, we walked up and down Khosan Road . . .teasing the vendors by stopping every so often to look at what they were selling with no intent to buy. (Don't worry, they get their share of hassling in, too!) Luckily, we found another Subway and grabbed lunch before we headed off to do some shopping at MBK--Thailand's great tourist mall! We took the Bangkok Skytrain to Siam Square, and ended up in the nicest mall I have ever been to. It's called "Discovery Center at Siam Square". I couldn't afford one thing in one store. They were all

Which Buddha is which? high end, haute coutre stores. But we enjoyed walking by them and soaking in the air conditioning! One store actually sold Lambourghinis, while another sold Ferraris, and still, another sold Porsches. They had actual cars in the mall, in their stores . . .on the 4th floor! It was crazy! We ended up seeing a movie at the nicest movie theatre . . .the chairs were like recliners. They were soft and laid back! The movie itself was here nor there, but I did enjoy the atmosphere of the theatre. After the movie, we headed to MBK. It was tourist store central! Almost nothing in there I needed, but everything looked so enticing. We grabbed supper at Billy's famous eatery--Pizza Company. And since I love pizza . . .I was very happy to oblige. After our delicious meal, we had to head back to Khosan Road. It was late, and we were exhausted.
Pool Time in BKK After the first night in Bangkok, we switched hotels. Even though our first hotel was fine, it wasn't really worth the money. So, we moved to D&D Inn just a few yards from our first hotel on Khosan Road. This hotel was cool

The Braided One because it had a pool--on the roof! We spent the morning here, laying out and reading by the pool. We finally decided we needed some Thai culture, so we headed out to the National Museum. It was full of Thai history . . .we found out that "The King and I" is inspired by a true story. And everything in Thai history was new to us. That night, I decided to follow the tourist masses and get my hair braided. It took . . .three long, boring hours. My tender head was thrown to and fro. I grimaced and groaned. Debbie would've LOVED it, but it was too rough for me! Billy walked around, got Burger King, walked around some more, got mangoes, walked around again, watched soccer, and walked around Khosan Road one more time. Luckily, even though it took most of the night, we still had the chance to get a Thai massage! Boy, I needed it!
Early Morning Visa Run The next morning was an early one! We were up at the crack of dark--5:30 a.m. We hauled it down to the Embassy of Myanmar . . .only to find out that it didn't open at 7:30
a.m., it opened at 9:00 a.m. So, we plopped a squat down on the sidewalk and waited for the next 3 hours until it opened. It was fortunate that we got there when we did, because the earliest they could get it finished was the next day--and we were leaving for Myanmar the day after that! Once we got our visas applied for, we needed to get a bit of rest--we're not used to getting up that early! We headed back to D&D Inn and took a solid two hour nap! It was great. Then we decided to roll out to the pool for our continued R&R. Luckily, Billy had the best idea to eat Indian food while we were here. We just happened to be staying right across the street from "A Taste of India". So, we tried it. It was amazing! Billy's dish was a recommended waiter item--which can be questionable--but it turned out to be the best of all. And the meal was cheaper than eating at Burger King!
I love gold! Our last day in Bangkok, we decided to get a little more Thai culture. We headed out to the Grand Palace. Upon arrival, we realized
Bangkok
Ring my bell! that I was wearing shorts and so was Billy! The Grand Palace is a "no shorts/tank tops" zone. Oooooops! And, I forgot my sarong! Double oooops! So, we took a tuk, tuk on a quick jaunt to the Golden Mount. There were plenty of Buddhas at the top and of course, it was covered in gold leaf . . .the entire top of the wat (temple). We rang a few bells . . .we're not sure why, but it was fun. Then we headed out to the Grand Palace. After that, we headed downtown to get our visas. We thought the man said to be there at 3:00 p.m., but as we approached the embassy, the wall said it closed at 3:00 p.m. It was currently 3:20 p.m.! Luckily, it was still open, and we got our visas. We ended the day with a little more shopping down in Pat Pong, swam in the pool (again), and decided that since Myanmar is the world without internet, we might as well get our Bangkok travel blog up and running. So . . .see you in Laos!
