Taking the Bus
Jason and I saved loads of money by taking the bus for 7 baht rather than a taxi to Siam centre each day. Thumbs up Jason and I weren't finished with the Philippines after a week, so we decided to extend our stay by one more week, scrap our tickets back to Malaysia and just head straight to Bangkok. It was wonderful to be back in Bangkok after all this time. Bangkok has its many charms, to name a few; the best known bartering mecca in SE Asia, deliciously flavourful MSG-loaded pad thai on the streets of khao sarn, an aromatic fishy smell all around, all the fried bugs you can name, and of course the charming tuk-tuk drivers bombarding you every which way you go.
Jason and I arrived early in the morning, so headed straight to Siam Oriental Inn, a guesthouse we know for being open 24 hours a day and offering one free night every three nights you stay. SOLD! Over the next couple of days, we were busy finding the oh-so necessary gizmos and gadgets we think we need to have. After all where's a better place to find these things than Bangkok baby!
While in Bangkok, we celebrated Valentine's Day; my favorite occasion of all. Hahaha, just kidding. We went out for dinner to the Outback Steakhouse in Siam
Centre, shared some Ribs and a few appetizers, then headed to Sweensen's for a 9-scoop ice cream and fruit fondue. Believe it or not, this fondue only costed 230 baht or just over $7 CAD. It was a wonderfully ridiculous price to pay for a little bit of heaven on V-Day. Watching all the men walk down the streets with flowers in their hands for their special someones made me smile and of course coo with "Awwwwwwwwwwe, she must be a lucky girl" , especially when Jason handed me a wilted rose he found on the floor of Siam Centre after all the flower sales were pretty much done. What a romantic, eh. I guess he was just trying to fit in. Well done Jason, you're a darling friend!
After we thought the hype over some silly little occasion was over with, we had the tuk-tuk ride of a lifetime with a crazy thai man trying to get us to Kao Sarn Rd in like 2 minutes flat. He probably wasn't that far off his target time too. Maybe he was in a hurry to meet his girl. I thought the tuk-tuk would flip for sure with the corners
he was inching. Unfortunately, the batteries on my camera went dead, so I didn't get a video of this crazy ride. We gave him a descent tip to reward his talented ummmmm... driving skills? Silly thai tuk-tuk drivers 😉
The next couple of nights, we hung out with some friends we ran into from Australia, and planned our trip to Laos. We were looking forward to our final destination before heading back to Bangkok to fly home.
