Sawat dee ca!!!!
OMG just 4 days left then home to where I've heard it is below zero!!! was no one listening to the last blog request?? So we've had our last day in Thailand today just relaxing, eating and packing all of our many new purchases while throwing away all of those unneeded items...."I don't need this shirt/hat/shampoo/etc. anymore!!??" Wow who would have ever thought that our backpacks could hold that much stuff again? I thought in Bali they were full but NOW we've reached new levels!
The past three days in Bangkok were very anticipated and held up to every dream....the shopping was lengthy and wonderful! Friday we tackled Chinatown and although we didnt buy to much it was certainly an experience. Ash and I and about 1000+ asian people squished into tiny alleyways lined of stores and then there were the people that thought it would be a good idea to ride their scooters through the alley...okay?!...or push their overfilled carts through...yeah smart! Saturday brought Chatchuk market (aka the weekend market) the largest in the world...a mere 15 000 stalls! so think china town but every store is about 5ft square box... I think that
we pretty much covered the whole place but who could ever really know for sure! Our favourtie area was the pet area where they had lots of adorable puppies, bunnies, birds, and chipmunks and squirrels for purchase!..yep take home your own chipmunk today on a leash!!! I unfortunately have been having some excellent stabbing stomach pains over the weekend that put a bit of a damper on the shopping experience but the shopping also served as a great distraction! We were loaded down with bags after a solid 8 hr day of shopping only to drop them at the hotel and head out for another 2 hrs of shopping on Khao San...wearing the runners was a lifesaver. On our return trip to Bangkok we have decided metered taxi will be our main form of transport for simple cost and comfort (A/C) reasons- some of our drivers were quite a pick..the personal fave was the guy with racing gloves on and who put racing number sign into his window as we were swerving and powering through traffic....or the guy who got us to mbk in about 5 minutes-he might have driven the whole time in 2nd gear to sound cooler! Sunday
was MBK, aka the knock-off mall and a wicked place to shop...8 levels and another solid 6 hrs! Although it was not as cheap as our stingey-selves had hoped we had a great time with the bags!!! and shoes!!! There was lots to see in the mall...8th floor -movie theatre with reclining lounger chairs, bowling alley, arcade, book store, restaurants and much more! Back to Khao San for the final purchases and to choose the right carrying apparatise for all our stuff..definately wont fit in only the backpack! "Did we really buy this much stuff!?" All the nights in Bangkok were pretty chill....thought about seeing a pingpong show but it was just to sketchy heading over there by ourselves. but it would have been FUNNY! Trying to get our last fixes of thai food and take in all that we have grown to love about thailand...the flies, stinky sewer water smells...scamming thai ppl..you know its always soo wonderful..hahah jk!
Ah yes back to the scam artist thais...sorry not all just the ones in suratthani (remeber where we got screwed over the last time?!) yes it happened again...after sending one group from our resting stop travel agency they informed us
that the VIP (reclinging seats, a/c, quiet and dark)bus was broken and that they would put us on the train up to Bangkok...ok....3rd class express bus for 12 hrs to Bangkok DOES NOT equal vip bus....barely paded no reclinging bench seats, with a fan and numerous long stops along the way...the lights dont turn out and very loud! It sucked and our necks were sore for a while after but we did get there without having to pay extra...keep positive i guess...it does make for a good story....
We left Koh Phi Phi on thursday after a wonderful time of laying on the beach and hanging out with friends that we had met on Koh Phangan...our bamboo bunglaow was minutes from the beach and although ants were always climbing on the bed it was decently priced and cool way to be phi phi...the water at the beach we were at was usually about a foot deep and was more like warm bath and at times a hot tub but the sun was hot and everything about the place was breathtaking! One day we took a snorkeling trip that also took us to maya bay (very beautiful but not the
same feeling as in the movie where there are tons of ppl around and the whole bay is filled with boats)...the lovely (without fail) afternoon rain interupted our return for another hangout time in the pouring rain!!! the raggae bar with the drunk people thai boxing and numerous other drinking establishments filled my evenings with buckets and fun times! The island is in rebuild mode after the tsunami and things are coming along quickly they are such hard workers sun up to sun down in the rain and hot sun..crazy! Phi phi don and ley are both gorgeous pieces of natural beauty and the water all around is so refreshing to look at!
anyways my time before our bus comes is running out...JUST 4 DAYS TILL WE WILL BE BACK IN VICTORIA AND CHRISTMAS!!!!! wow so hard to believe....wish us good luck in Tokyo!
Love you all too much and the next time well be giving you hugs...
