Bangkok has been amazing- we have used the metro, boats, tuk tuks ,2 types of bus, trains and walked 9.5 miles on average over 3 days 😉 Our hotel was perfect for exploring, the room was quiet with a fridge and kettle 👍, the staff all very friendly and the breakfast delicious 😋

On Saturday we walked to the Grand Palace to suss out the strict dress code, visited Wat Pho with the reclining Buddha, got a boat across the river, found the main train station to work out Mondays timings before getting the Metro across town to the Sky Bar! A cocktail with fantastic views over the city then found a small family run restaurant for some dinner and a fun tuk tuk journey back to the hotel.

On Sunday we got a tuk tuk to the opulent Grand Palace, lunch by the river then an air conditioned bus up to Chatuchak weekend market. A wander round this vast market before getting the metro back and finding Khao San road famous for its bars, hostels, food and massages. It was busy with quite a few Messi and Mbappe shirts around. Dinner followed by a much needed foot/leg massage then bed 😴

Yesterday we travelled north of the city by train to visit Ayutthaya ,which was the 2nd Siamese capital founded in 1350, before being burnt and destroyed by the Burmese 400 years later. It covers a huge area of 1.1 square miles, so we barely scratched the surface 😮 Nice to get out of the city and see some of the countryside with the paddy fields and different temples etc.Combined use of train, metro and non ac bus to go back to Khao San road to eat then a quick drink in the hotel roof bar before bed.

Teddy Bear Rice
I am never going to serve rice in a heap again! I remember the Buddha so well- and the amazingly delicious food. Now just very very jealous! Just had mini Christmas- lots of fun with Rufus and Ned. Happy Christmas to you both. Xxx
