No problem finding the Hostel on Silom road. It was humid and hot !!!!
I shared the two persons room with a guy from California who was looking for a teaching job here in bangkok. I ended up sharing the room with two other guys for the next week. One guy from ? Germany, but mix Japanese and another one is Italian.
Lots of shopping here in Bangkok and around Silom road. I just walked out side and found lots of food vendors: noodle soups, papaya salad, fresh fruit stands, Ice coffee etc. No problem with the foods. I love spicy foods so Thai foods not a problem for me. Actually found a Laotian food vendor from Udon, Laos, with the fish and chicken curry that was pretty good. I met some other expat from Vientiane and vietnam at the food market.
Hooked up with my friend from Bangkok whose husband happended to be a tour guide and
The Grand Palace, Bangkok
The Golden Pagoda and temple of the Grand Palace.
I took the public Ferry boat which costed only 25 Baht to get to Pier 9th, and you can then walk to the palace. The entrance fee is 350 bahts they ended up set me for a private tour through North East Thailand, and South West thailand.
I took the skytrain and the public ferry boat to the Grand Palace. Beautiful palace with many gold buhhda. The Green Buhha was a bit smaller than I expected. It was such a hot day that I did not wonder for too long. checked out the market across from the Grand Palace selling mainly religous relic/statues.
I have visited the Morning floating market, evening floating market outside Bangkok. The market was overrun with tourists, even on the longtailed boats cruising the market.
Visited Ayuthaya with much older Khmer style temple design. Saw the famous Buhha head entrapped in the root of a tree in the temple ground. Noted majority of the buhha are missing the head. The local guide told us that most of the head were stolen to tell the gem in the eyes and also to foreign antique collectors. Took pictures of loads of monkey along one of the temple grounds. noted alot of the monkeys are with little ones. I took many pictures of these little creatures because they are so cute.
Kanachunburi is the the North west of Bangkok.
We visited the Erawan National Park with the famous waterfalls which has seven level up the hills. I only visited the 4th levels. The waterpool below the fall has loads of fishes. Water was clean and cool but too bad I could not have a swim in it due to time constraints. We also visited the Prapat Cave which has a 600 meters climb. There was this little dog that greeted us when we arrived at the park and follow us all the way inside the cave. My friend almost passed up walking up the steps. The Cave is worth the walk up even with the limited lighting, we can see that the limestones formations are quite spectacular.
There was a hotspring along the way, Hatdad Hot spring, which had dual cold the hot spring. They sectioned out one side for the Monk. We only tried the hot spring up to our knee.
Visited the the Thai/Mynmar border town in Santaburi. Walked the longest woodened bridge in Thailand built around 20 years ago.
Mon and Karen people live in this area and some of them have their housed floating on the water by the Lake. You can stay in their
water guest house for about 1000 baht/night.
We went on to Pattaya, the South Eastern Resort beach town.while passing through Bangkok city on the way there, we saw many buses with the red shirt supporter going into Bangkok to join thed protest. There were more police and sodier present but not giving us any trouble.
Pattaya night life is a different ballgame. Lots of tourists from various countries, US, UK, Russian, Korean. Sex trade and show was way of life here.
We went to see male striper show which was more interesting than the female show.
I felt pity for the young men and girls who had to work in this trade to earn a living. Would not go to see this kind of show again.
having a bit of problem downloading all the picture so I will leave it for now. Still more pictures to come on the Thailand trip.
