Humble and Proud
The poverty is very difficult to comprehend - many Thai's live in properties such as this. Brought a lot of sobering thoughts to an otherwise great holiday. Had a fantastic trip in a 3rd class railway carraige yesterday, they have their smokers sussed out here - on the bogey joint between carraiges, totally open air, mind the gap or you're f***ed (o;
Where are all the fat Thai's? I dont think I have seen any yet, but then again I haven't seen any ambulances either - don't these peeps get sick?
Found a great little hostel in Aythaya - a tuk-tuk man commandeered my baggage off the train and led us straight to his tuk-tuk "oh my.... these guys can be scary" and off we went to the P.U.Hostel - en route he told us he can do guided city tour, cheap and good - well, quick think and we took him up on the offer! He said he would meet us at 9:00 am! At 9:00 we were still snoozing!
He took us to some amazing ruins, then some more amazing ruins and then some more ruins when we decided enough was enough, there are only so many dead bhuddahs you can enjoy in one day! So, he then too us to the Elephant Wotnot Thingy.... and can you believe this....
I WENT
Stinky Markets
argh, my delicate westernised connection between nasal tubes and stomach were severely tested! The stench of food cooking in here really made me want to puke FOR A RIDE ON AN ELEPHANT - how brave was that? Not sure who shit themsens first, me or the elephant! Great fun, bloody uncomfy but wow - I did it! We then went back to p.u.hostel - I slept, sam went to find a bank!
Just about got used to the arse-pipe'n'wipe - wicked!
Last night we went down a night market - it stinks so bad I needed a sick bag - it is mostly open air food vendors, but the food is putrid (take note steve, Im gonna come back as a 7 stone waif at this rate!). Stopped off at a bar and found the most clueless scots guy ever! Doing Thailand alone and has already been ripped off so many times (Hi Andy/Angus!) - d'oh.
No piccys to show you yet cos in true pollywotsit mode I forgot to bring my cable with me! You WILL NOT be spared though, you'll get them all when I get home!
For those interested in the RSD twaddle - this is not the ideal place to visit - the heat is incredibly good at making it feel worse, added to the bangs from people
Ancient Temple
They are everywhere! Gold-clothed Bhuddahs everywhere you turn! and uneven pavements (are they really pavements? they seem to stick a bit of concrete anywhere they need a step!!); still, a great adventure - none of this 5 star luxury rubbish for me and sam! Cheapo hostels are brilliant.
Tomorrow we are going on about an 8 hour train ride to a beach thingy, or at least sommat where they have sea, and sand and all that so will be going for a splash!
And... .by now you have noticed this load of bumph has nothing to do with Gheckos or Thai Beer (o;
Lovya all lots, behave eh?
Catherine in pure stupid pollywotsit mode
PS - UP THE SHARKS - CHEER FOR ME PLEASE LEE AND BARRY!
