We planned on biking to Rueisui(more hot springs-we can't seem to get enough!)but we encountered the same strong head winds and instead caught a train to Suao so we could bike south on the infamous Sua to Hua highway and then continue down the coast with a tailwind. On the 4 hour train ride we still got to see the beautiful east rift valley with it's rice paddies and farms and fruit plantations sandwiched between two mountain ranges! In Suao we happened upon Joser's bike hostel which was awesome and right up Chris' alley as it was in the back of Joser's Giant bike shop!! A great place with a very hospitable owner who shared fresh coffee with beans that he roasted himself(he used to own a coffee shop and is something of a connoisseur)as well as great 2yr old plum wine that he made himself. We can highly recommend this place to any bikers that are either about to start the Sua To Hua road or have just finished it as a great spot to recharge as well as do any bike maintenance needed! The next day it was raining heavily and we didn't want to ride the notorious Sua to Hua highway with its climbs, tunnels and narrow shoulders so we decided to spend the day there. The rain stayed heavy but sporadic throughout the rest of the day allowing us to explore Nanfangao fishing port which was really bustling. We saw all kinds of incredible fish down at the market! The afternoon highlight was visiting one of the local cold springs. We had the whole place to ourselves(and it was huge) as it was outdoors, raining, cold(for Taiwan), and getting dark. They must have thought we were crazy!
