Fulong Camping
Not the usual forest camping I'm used to, but it was clean, nice, and served its purpose. Its been a while since I wrote last, but finally the last two weekends have been worthwhile to write about!
So about two weekends ago I went Camping at Fulong Beach with some fellow 30 kickboxers. It was lots of fun! We took the train from Taipei for about an hour and a half and ended up in Fulong which is North East of Taipei. Fulong is a tiny town, with nature being its prime asset. It has beautiful beaches and hiking trails. We spent the day at the beach then drank on the beach till late at night. It was fun getting to know the fellow kick boxers especially because not all of them are English teachers, so its nice to hear stories of different people doing different things in Taiwan.
This past weekend my fellow teachers and I headed down to Kenting for Spring Scream. We had a long weekend due to tomb sweeping day, (Holiday name makes it basically self explanatory) The Taiwan people go and pay your respects to their ancestors and clean their tombs and make it nice for them. It used to be a 10 day holiday but now its one.
So we went to
Seafood Dinner- Fulong
Seafood meal one of the fellow kickboxers ordered. I thought the little octapuses were really cute! Spring Scream in Kenting. Spring Scream is a weekend concert held at the very southern tip of Taiwan. Its local artists, with a few Foreign (English Speaking acts)
I generally did not like the band playing, but there was one girl singer I liked, and it was nice to see what it was all about. There was lots of beer, and from how some of the people there were acting, lots of drugs. It seemed to me that this was a sort of right of passage for a lot of the younger people there. You could tell that a lot of the younger people there went buck wild with drugs and alcohol for the first time in their lives. This was especially apparent one morning while Lisa and I were eating dinner and this girl was pretty much passed out on her breakfast plate while her friends ate around her.
Kenting is a small city, with one main road going though it. It clearly was not set up for the thousands of people that came in for the long weekend. The streets were packed with cars people and scooters. I became used to having scooters coming right and me, and
To Kentning
At the Train Station. cars almost clipping me. It was a non-stop traffic jam. I don’t even want to know the amount of car exhaust I breathed in! But once you became accustom to all that, and just let the vibe and excitement take over, it was a fun fast paced party!
Our way down to Kenting involved taking luxury bus. These luxury buses are a bit over the top, but still a nice way to travel. The luxury bus is basically a bus with 20 massive comfy seats, that recline all the way back and have a massage option to boast. But that wouldn’t be enough. You also get your own private TV screen, in which you can watch movies and play video games. The one thing that was a new excitement was the process of urinating on this luxury bus. I haven’t mentioned it before, but the majority of toilets here are squatting toilets. Basically a urinal for girls. I’ve got the art of going down quite good, but on a moving bus, very difficult! Lets just say its quite the experience on a bumpy bus, but I did quiet well! So the luxury bus, definitely a nice way to travel
On the Bus
Taking Advantage of the luxury bus. The weekend was spent on the beach, eating good meals, drinking nice beer, watching music and relaxing. The last night we were there we went down to the main beach for a beach party unlike anything I have ever experienced! The beach had hundreds of people all sitting around big candles drinking and talking. There was music playing and fireworks going off non-stop! While sitting around taking it all in, I thought that this could never happen back home. That there would be hundreds of fights and people messing about. But here everyone was in good spirits and being pretty responsible with their fireworks for the mos part. That is until 3 am when people were really drunk and began lighting them off anywhere instead of the designated shore. A few people got hit with some fireworks and I had ash falling down on me nonstop but still, I was surprised no one blew their fingers off! At about 4 am we decided that 5 hours of fireworks was enough, and called it an evening.
The next morning we had a nice swim and made our way back home, to reality.
Till Next Time

Hey Jenny
Great update on Taiwan Jenny! Sounds like you are having fun! I didn't even realize that Taiwan has beaches like that! I will have to head back to kenting again next time! I went to Fulong before when I was much younger, and we camped at the beach! I like the pic of the luxury bus...hmmm, i might need to get one for myself next time! It looks like it's overkill, since Taiwan isn't all that big! hehe I am surprised to hear about the drug use! I thought Taiwan has the death penalty on drug. interesting! That's cool that you went to the Spring Scream! i haven't never heard of it!! Thanks for sharing the fun you are having! I am jealous! G
