Well my Halloween weekend definatly did NOT go as planned. A bunch of us had planned to meet in Taichung and go out for Halloween, the hotel was reserved and the costumes we purchased. Then on Friday night, Mary got in a scooter accident. She called me from the hospital to tell me what happened and she was going to have to remain in the hospital. Thankfully it was nothing too serious, she had to get 8 stiches and she had to stay in the hospital for 2 days. She is feeling better now, and I really missed her this weekend. So after I found this out we cancelled all our plans in case she wanted us there. But she didnt so I headed to visit Muoy in Changhua for the weekend.
All I knew about Changhua was there wasnt much there but temples and a buddha. So I was just happy to help her discover things in her town. We trekked with out a destination in mind and we found lots of great things. We found the shopping street and we did some serious shopping. I cant get enough of the shopping here, its every where and it so
cheap, I cant stop buying things, I love it! After shopping we headed to the big buddha. We had to hike up the hill so we chose the scenic route.....a series of stairs and steep inclines, I think I may need to start working out! We finally reached the top and we had an amazing view of the city. The lights and everything is great...all I needed was a hot guy (no offense Muoy) it was very romantic and beautiful. We took lots of pics and walked around. I had a group of guys taking my picture and Mouy told them that they needed to ask before they took my picture. We found out they were from Thailand and they were there to see the buddha. And they definatly wanted a pic with me, too bad I was sweating and nasty, oh well thats what they get. So we contiuned our exploration and eventually made it back to the train station after we were so tired we didnt want to walk anymore.
We headed back to Muoy's small country town to venture out and find some dinner. She warned me that I would get alot of stares and she
was right. There dont seem to be many foreigners in Changhua at all, even in the city I had some many stares. It gets really annoying after a while, I feel like an animal in the zoo. But, we found a tasty resaurant and the people were so nice and helpful.
On Sunday we headed back to the city and we went to the big buddha again. Thats right we couldnt get enough. We had a great view of the city during the day. Then we did some more shopping then found a place to eat lunch. After we walked some more then I decided to catch the train home. Thats when the fun started!
So bought my ticket and got on the train I thought was right. Well we pulled into Taichung and I was like oh crap I am going the wrong way. So I showed the conductor my ticket and he was like NO, NO, NO. You have to go the other way. And I was like I know, well what do I do. So using motions and after finding someone who knew some English they told me to get off in Fongyuan, and to
get on another train going back to my town. Too bad you dont have a map because Fongyuan is directly across from Dajia and only 15min by car. So I wait at the train station and get on the train that is supposed to take my home. So we head back the way I just came from and eventually we turned north and headed for my town. So I enjoyed the fine Taiwan train system for 2HOURS! It should have only taken 40min. Well since it was only supposed to take 40min I bought a huge green tea and drank it up. I bet you can guess where I'm goin with this one. Well I didnt know where the bathroom was so I went on a search. I finally found it and crammed myself and all my stuff in it then when I was finished we hit a bump or something and I went flying into the wall and my foot almost went into the squatter. I felt like the biggest idiot when I came out. Oh well I stick out anyways so why not make a fool of myself along the way.
Today I started teaching the students
about Halloween and tomorrow I am dressing up for school. They went crazy over the candy, but to get the candy they have to say "Trick-or-treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat" They thought it was so funny when it was translated. I am excited for tomorrow, we are going to take lots of pictures of the chaos!
Also today after my first class I ran down to the office and on my desk was a big box!! I got my first package from my parents, with books, magazines, peanut butter m&m's, baked BBQ lays and other things, I was pumped. I have one from Uncle Jay and another from my parents still in the mail somewhere!
