1200 steps up and there are ruins of a fort on top, how on earth did they manage to build that in 500AD?

The rock is 200m high and was formed from magma of an extinct volcano (I had to sneak in a geek fact).

Amazing views from the top of the rock, just as well after 1200 steps in 35C heat.

After the King built the fort, it also spent time as a monastary.

As a ruin, the rock is impressive enough, I can't imagine how it must have looked in it's prime.

Flying in small planes is so much fun!

Even the pilot was taking photos as we came into land, what a great job.

That dang work stuff again
Great to see you blogging again. I could hear those islands calling you. Being a nurse I loved hearing local cures. We love train travel. Sounds like a great trip. We need to add Sri Lanka to our list.
