The key part of our Sri Lanka plan was to visit the ancient cities in the centre of the island.
Polonnaruwa was the capital in the 11th to 13th centuries. The ruins are now part of an archaeological park which is a UNESCO world heritage site. I don't remember reading any blogs about this location. Terrific! Love those Unesco sites and this one sounds great. Glad you started at the far end. I'm not sure I could have made that hike in that heat.
