Hey! well yes they arrived safe and sound! well a little jet lagged!! but happy to get here, and managed to find there way across country to my liccle home of Bonghwa!!
Arrived on Thursday so I managed to skive the end of school to ge meet their bus before cooking them a traditional korean dish!! 😊
Off they went then on Friday to scare the locals in Bonghwa while I was at school before we headed to Yeongju (the nearby city) for dinner and a 'posh' coffee!! very nice!! yum yum!!!
The weekend was here so off on our first afdventure! Danyang - a liccle mountain town about 1 hour bus ride away, easy enough the bus leaves directly from Yeongju and arrvies in time for us to go off and find Gossu caves!!
Yes mum went in yes in a cave!!!!! we were impressed! the whale had a few tight squeezes but we the caves were awesome! they meant to be one of the largest in Korea and well worth the visit! you are free to wander around yourself following the path and climb right up through the caves on spiral staircases 😊
Only around 4000 w entrance (2
pounds) but worth arriving early to avoid crowds!!! we were amazed how warm it was and were roasting by the end!! The caves are only 10 min walk from Danyang over the 'red bridge!!"
So after over excursion we went to find a motel, the one id looked at on the net who had demanded i pay in advance was...well intersting! and clearly needed to make punters pay before arrival!! so was glad i had decided to have a wander when we arrived! we found a lovely motel on the river front with an old girl running it who chattered on to us in Korean!! but meant we all could stay in an Ondol (padded mattress on heated floors for 35000w about 22 pounds for the night for the room 😊 and had great views of the river!
Now was time to head in search of some of the 8 wonders of Danyang!!!! we decided we'd walk to the three peaks! (a good 2 and half miles later along the main road we were doubting our decision!!!! the views of the river made up for it thogh!!
As we turned through the tunnel you saw the three peaks in what
now is a frozen river and it was beautiful! of course we 'had to' walk up the cliff to see the pagoda and the natural arch!!! (i think my knee was dead the amount steps in one day!!! haha!!) but views were fantastic and you cant get over the clash between modern tower blocks and old arcitecture and natural scenery, would love to return when the boats are running up and down (hence lake not frozen!!) see it from the water!!!
Well evening arrived and after much searching we found a semi coffee house and a restaurant to have our bbq pork 😊 yum yum!!
Time for a wander along the river to watch the lights on the bridge before seeking out hot floor to sooth our aching muscles!!! mmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Up bright and early as always so ma and I off to search for brekkie! we found a 24 hour corner shop and made some bread (which was covered in whipped cream!!! we found out later) and cheese sandwiches!! which after the guy finished chatting up his lady friend on the phone decided to serve us!! nothing like korean ways!!!
we were then up and out in search of
the bus to Guinsa - headquarters of the Korean Cheontae sect of Buddhism. It was only 30 min bus from Danyang nestled up in the mounatains and was amazing! you started at the entrance gate (where else would be the obvious place to start ye!!!) and then walked up through each entrance, past the guards of the temple, and on up to the other 40 ish temples! climbing further and further up to reach the main temple at the top, the buildings were gorgeous and the views over looking the mountains fantastic! well worth a visit, the monks wander freely around you, and you are free to wander through the gardens and up through the buildings, all hand painted and listen to the chanting and playing of instruments! a hard pull up but lots places to 'admire the view!!!"
After our wander we headed back to Danyang and Yeongju before getting some meat and a coffee to make a much needed whale indian!! yum yum!!!
Had a fantastic weekend 😊 hehe!! cant wait to spend more time with the folks over next couple weeks! but for now im back to school!!! but my girlies (students in my fav
class!!) just brought me CHristamas presents!!! made me cry a liccle!!! hehe!! so im happy and so looking forard to our christmas tomo!!

Merry Christmas
Hi Ceri, Merry Christmas! Thanks for the e-Card. Looks like Unc Graham and Aunt Sue are having a good time seeing the sights. Your Dad must feel right at home cooking that BBQ pork. Have a great holiday season and don't let them work you too hard at school !
