Packed!Packed!Packed!

A years worth of stuff in 2 suitcases.
Dear Blog Readers,

Welcome to the Korean Update - a blog to keep you updated, informed and entertained by the adventures that Laura and I are hoping to have during our year in South Korea! We have been fortunate enough to obtain a place on the English Program In Korea (EPIK) and we are to teach English to elementary, middle or high school students for the next year. Our role will be as an associate teacher so we will work alongside a Korean teacher and focus on the conversational aspect of teaching English in the school. The region we have been placed in is Chungbuk-do which is a regional province in the centre of South Korea. I can safely say that this is the highest blog that I’ve ever written - we are currently 33000 feet in the air en route to Seoul!

Attempting to pack for a year has been very difficult! Luckily, we’re flying with Asiana airlines who give us 30kg of check in luggage and we just about managed to get on without having to pay for excess baggage - an achievement in itself! We have left behind some things that will be missed but all

the important things have been packed - ice skates, Indonesian lamp and Xbox 360 to name a few. We had to pack a while ago because I was on my internship with Centrica and Laura has been on holiday so remembering what we had packed was also difficult and anything that we have forgotten…well it’s just too late to do anything about it now!

Saying goodbye to friends and family has been horrendous but we’ve both been mentally and emotionally preparing ourselves for it. However, being in contact with home should be relatively easy in this day and age with Skype and Facebook. Anyway, I shall try and get some sleep now so that I don’t suffer too badly from jetlag when we arrive. The time difference is +9 hours and we have a week of Orientation ahead of us - I’ll let you all know how we get on, especially when we find out what school(s) we are teaching at and if we’re living close to each other! Try and subscribe to this blog so that you receive emails when we update it! It’ll be good to know if you’re interested!
