Ho, ho, ho…we are getting ready to leave for Thailand! I (Kristy) just finished my last class before our week long break and I can already hear the beaches calling my name. In general, it feels like time is flying by quite quickly. I know for all of you at home it has probably seemed like an eternity since you’ve seen our smiling faces, but I’ll make sure to include lots of pics this time so that you get your fill.
Let’s see…both Colin and I are working quite a bit so our weekdays are just like the weekdays would be at home except we eat more rice here and dodge more motorbikes/scooters while walking to and from work. (These guys prefer to use the sidewalks for some of their motorized vehicles and some days it’s a fun hit and miss game.)
A couple weekends ago we decided to venture out of the city on a bus to some popular sauna/spa. These are a pretty popular thing over here. People go there to cleanse and relax in various pools of water (hot and cold) full of herbs, oils, and caffeine, whatever. So, before getting separated into our gender
specific areas of this place, Colin and I made a plan to meet in the co-ed area out back. Upon entering the ladies area there is a big sign saying “How to use this facility” in English and then all the rest of the text, that actually explained what the title promised, was in Korean. (Tease English text is used like this on many signs, products, and foods. Fun!) So, whatever, I ventured into the land of the nude, trying to find someone who spoke English, but I was out of luck. I casually did a mini tour of the place trying to find the door outback, but was easily distracted by the fact that I was the only person in the entire place wearing clothes and not Asian. People were looking, I didn’t know where to go, or what to do for this “relaxation process”, so I just put on my bikini to wander around. There were these little dressing stations very low to the ground where woman were sitting with a bucket of water, a hose, and all their cleaning products giving themselves a serious scrub down. Next. Then I saw the pools of water as promised in
A different look
Yes, there are plenty of Starbucks' here, but it's not often that you'll find a cool dude like this standing outside. the ads, with women lounging around in them naked. Finally I found the door out back with more pools of water, but they were all full of naked women. Okay, I thought, I won’t be joining Colin; we are each going to be having our own little party. Since I was freezing standing there deciding what to do, I jumped into one of the hot pools. Very nice, except that I was still getting some looks as I had my bikini on. Oh, and I guess I didn’t really scrub down and get clean before entering the “cleansing” water…. oops. Finally I saw another girl go scooting past me through a small door that I didn’t see before and she was wearing a bikini. I followed her and finally found Colin waiting for me in another pool. It ended up being pretty relaxing, but then Colin tasted the caffeine water that we were bathing in to see if it tasted like coffee and then felt sick so we had to go. It was either that or the trauma he suffered from seeing all those men lounging and bathing together naked.
Last week Colin put up some small Christmas lights,
Move it
It was a chilly Saturday morning at the huge COEX mall and these girls were dancing to a music video in the background. bought a poinsettia, and then downloaded “It’s a Wonderful Life” so that we could get into the Christmas spirit. Oh and he tried to make Annette’s famous egg nog. “A” for effort. We also ended up getting last minute tickets to see the Nutcracker, which was probably the best performance of it that I’ve seen. Originally Colin wasn’t interested in ballet, but eventually he realized that he could watch girls dance around in tights and it would make me happy. Win-win situation.
Today at school Colin got suckered into being Santa Claus for our Kindergarten kiddies! He was great, but he said that wearing the dirty old costume was kind of sick. Apparently the beard fluff was going into his mouth and getting wet…just as it probably did for the guy who wore it last year! Ha ha! Oh well two of his kids bought him designer cologne: one was Chanel and the other Bvlgari. The moms of my kids bought me a dressy scarf with a whole bunch of beads and stitching and some gloves. Pretty nice.
Okay, here are some pics that will have more info. It’s time to pack up the summer gear for our
