***Sometimes taking a short trip to a close by area is a cool thing to do here.** This particular Saturday we flagged down a taxi outside the gate and went to the Artsy area in Seoul known as "Insadong". On saturdays they block the streets from cars entering so thats a good day to take your kids as well. There were alot of shops dealing with tea and tradintional lil rice snacks you would eat with tea. The Koreans ideal of sweets is a diffrent than the American pallet. The tend to use honey of frutose derived from fruits to sweeten their food. So the treats look like your going to get a sugary taste but you do not. However, scott had been telling me about these deep fried pancakes with cinnamon in them for a month and we finally had one during this outing. First of all you know it's good when the line is wrapped around the street as soon as the street vendor sets up! NO JOKING! When it was our turn I told scott one for everyone would be enough. Well, LORDY..after the first bit i wanted to snatch my kids pancake from thier hands or kick

scott back into line. It was that good. i found out this is usually a treat they make during the cold months. I can't wait to go back this fall just for those! There are alot of cute looking places to eat but pricey because it's kind of showy. We were total silly Americans and ate at Mcdonalds in off one of the streets. You can buy handmade mulberry paper with flowers petals in it for very cheap. I bought a few to write letters back home. They streets have people dressed in traditional clthing making treats in public view. Very cool!! We stopped at a game room and had a go at a few games. Then we walked of the path by the pretty bell tower which is rand at certain times and special occassions. In front was a large group of college kids who performing and dancing, we sat down and figured we were getting stared at because we were Americans. Lina was actually clapping to the dance routines until it became appearent that it was a demontrastion to get the U.S. American forces out of S.Korea. I was shocked that a few bad eggs in our military has made a strong impression on the Korean youth. Needless to say we hailed a taxi quickly and returned home...everyone went down for a nap after that outing. For days my mind was replaying the drama they performed about drunken G.I's attacking their women. These rallys are sad but never violent here in Korea. No need to worry for travelers wanting to come over for a visit!!
