This tree is in the middle of the village. Called Samsindang (meaning shrine for three gods), it is a 600-year-old zelkova tree and is worshipped as a village spirit. The white pieces of paper are wishes written by visitors, in the hope that they will come true.

Ah, what a lovely sight on a hot and dusty day in the middle of nowhere! (A "Pocari Sweat" vending machine - a Japanese drink which replenishes body salt lost to sweating)

Andong and Japan
Although I enjoyed Andong very much, I still feel that two nights there were enough. Gosh, I think you hit the nail on the head there, in that I may have left my heart in Japan. I've been trying hard not to, but I really have missed it...! Perhaps this is the ingredient needed for a return visit at some point...!
