The Bus
This is the bus we took on our field trip. This will be a long one, haha…
So, it’s been about two weeks since I last posted here so I figured it was about time for another entry. I have been a busy guy as of late. First off, fall in Korea (and spring for that matter) is an amazing time weather wise. The last few days have been outstanding! It’s been around the mid 70s to mid 80’s, and not too humid. With the weather being pretty decent it’s made it easy for my friends and I to head into Seoul for a few baseball games, and some "Noraebang" (노래방, literally, "song room") for some karaoke fun. My weeks have been occupied with teaching of course, with some off time to explore and eat some amazing food (time, which I had none of my last time in Korea). I’m trying not to let it be spent by sitting around idle.
Baseball, as you all know, is probably my number one past time here. It’s just that amazing! Unfortunately, the season is winding down so I think I have about 2 or three games left before I have to wait for spring. Also, the LG Twins, well…
Crab Hunting
This is the mud flats where we went crab catching. Suck. Haha. Really, they are pretty bad this year. Fortunately for me the games I have attended they have won… Probably because they missed my cheering presence during my year in the US. Haha. Either way, I consider myself lucky.
I had the privilege to attend another Korean wedding. This weeding was for a good friend of mine (her English name is Claire) who was a Korean teacher at my last school. She’s Catholic so I was able to see a Catholic ceremony in Korean. Very interesting! And I was actually kind of able to understand what was going on because the ceremony was quite similar to what I am used to in America.
This past weekend, on Saturday, all the Kindergartens had a graduation field trip. They don’t graduate until March but this was the time that fit best in the schedule. We took 4 or 5 tour busses (I can’t remember the number) to the Coal Museum. Umm, yeah, as you can imagine, that wasn’t too fun. Haha. First off all the displays were in Korean so I can read a lot of the words, but the hell if I knew their meaning. Plus, the kids
Lunch
Eating lunch before we head down to the beach. weren’t too excited about it. After the museum, we headed to the coast to go crab hunting. The kids all had little bottles to store any crabs the caught by hand. We went to the mud flats and the tide was out so we could walk right out and look under all the rocks. There were SO many damn crabs! The kids loved that! One of my little ones caught 12 of them! Haha. She was pumped. After our crab adventure, we headed to a nice beach called
Daecheon Beach. We ate lunch and then headed to the ocean to play in the sand. It was really fun and the kids enjoyed every minute of it. After that we loaded in the busses and headed home. It was a long and exhausting day!
On Sunday, it would have been nice to have a day to myself after that tiring field trip… Nope! It was moving day. The owner/principal of my school had a small apartment complex built specifically for the teachers and they had finally been finished. SO, bright and early Sunday we all had to move our things. And in my case, and a few other of my
fellow teachers who arrived when I did, it meant it was our last time to move! We now are able to get settled. I was pretty much living out of my suitcase for the last month, not wanting to get unpacked to need to pack up again to move. But finally we are here. It took the majority of the day to get all our stuff collected, then to the new place and finally divvied back up. This place in nice and new and clean! It’s not as big as the apartment I had when I was in Korea the first time, but I like it better. Plus it’s located at the top of a small hill above the city. It’s a nice quite area and I like it a lot!
With the field trip and moving, my weekend was pretty much shot… But I wasn’t too mad. It was for understandable reasons. Another positive is that next week is the Chuseok(추석) holiday in Korea; the Korean thanksgiving. I have 5 days off, Saturday until Wednesday, and then a short two day week and another weekend. I’m pretty OK with that set up. There are
definitely a few baseball games in my future! J
Hopefully in a few days I wll have a lot more pictres to post. My Korean co-teacher is the head Korean teacher and she was taking pictures like crazy. So I should have some good ones very soon.
So yeah, that’s been the scoop for the last two weeks. Fun times.
