After a none eventful flight home (thankfully) we arrived at Heathrow at 05:30 and what do we discover, only one customs official for UK/ EU passport holders. The E passport quick lanes were supervised by four officials but we couldn't use them because we had children with us, the lanes for none EU travellers had SIX manned desk all with officers sat there twiddling their thumbs, as a consequence our single lane snaked around and around the barriers with everyone fuming, welcome home !

When we finally get to the gate the officer asks are we all related, yes, we said, have you a letter from the children's parents permitting travel? YES we said, we were able to leave the country without checks or problems but try and get back in you have to jump through hoops. I thought of asking for asylum so we'd get processed quicker and just released to report back at a later date! But that's another story.
