Like being in England

Singapore

I spent 3 days in Singapore; a city, country and island.

I was amazed by the similarities with the UK, the style of the roads and signs, the type of shops, "Topshop" for example but it had an even more futuristic feel as everything was so clean. There was no smoking in many areas, no chewing gum and no eating Durian, the smelly fruit. The city was full of big tower blocks and shopping malls, visible from the 72nd floor of a posh hotel near the port, and there were many, many ships.
We went to Pulau Ubin, another island to the east of Singapore and then in the evening to the famous Long Bar in the Raffles hotel to drink a Singapore Sling, perhaps the world's most famous cocktail recipe, invented by a Raffles Hotel barman, although 4 of us shared one as it was pricey

After Singapore we flew from Peninsular Malaysia to Malaysian Borneo and the view of the island from the plane was fantastic.

Flying over Singapore on the way to Borneo

No visit to Singapore is complete without a 'sling' at Hotel Raffles, one of the better accommodations in Singapore.
