Slid into consciousness about 8.30am, much better. And what else should we expect but for builders here to work on Saturday's - lying in bed as pilons were being hammered into the foundations, but i still had Joe sleeping peacefully next to me. Last night was a timeless blur of hearing Gav talking to Jack who had midnight second wind (makes a change from Gav's), Gav coming back into our room muttering about not being able to stand any more Peppa Pig, Jack being hungry and the pair of them venturing out about 1am to 7-11 (didnt realise that store was still going!) to get some bread and butter as Room Service wouldn't humour us, Gav bringing Joe into bed with me and then going back to sleep with Jack in his bed. Another night of musical beds and I hate to think what mood we will all be in today!
The boys slept on and we had a 'lie-in' watching TV. At one point the building vibrations were so absolutely core-shakingly deep it did feel like it was our building being ravaged by bulldozers - a few moments later on CNN, breaking news reported that an earthquake had hit
Japan. We both looked at each-other thinking the same thing - that we were pretty sure that was what we had felt!
Gav popped over to his fav coffee store with Jack and by the time he got back, i was asleep again - as he couldn't open the door and had to get the porter to let him in. I don't know what it is but it just takes hours to get ready and out of the door. Finally we left our room at 2pm - where does the time go! Weather is 29C today, and has generally been overcast and humid, but bear- rather than unbear - able.
We got a taxi to the Singapore Flyer - a bigger version of our London Eye. Boys were a little bored but moaning was contained to some extent by ice - cream. Great (and slow) views over Singapore - the Grand Prix track wound round below us. Building works everywhere - lots of reclaimed land. We didn't stay long and found a taxi back to the hotel, a 2 hour excursion - enough for the boys who were already suffering room withdrawal symptoms. Jack was still not well
really so we decided Room Service was a better option than trying to get them to sit Lunch out. We ordered what we had for dinner the night before pretty much - Singapore noodles, Chicken Satay and Nice Rice! Boys not eating much at the moment really, not proper food anyway.
About 5 we headed off for the pool and gave Jack about 1/2 hour Poolside fun before we got ready to go out for the Night Safari at 6.30pm. I dont really know what I was thinking when I thought it would be a good idea to wear them out doing this, thinking they then might go to bed at a more normal time, even though we wouldnt be returning until 10.30pm. Because of course kids never work to your agenda - Jack fell asleep on the bus for nearly the whole journey, and Joey towards the end just as we were arriving and had to wake them up. We then had to carry Joe around when we couldnt use the buggy. We went straight to the 40 min Tram ride, which Jack did wake up for and enjoyed seeing the animals in the dark - rhino's, deer,
lions, elephants, giraffe - the usual game crew. Joey slept through most of it but did manage to point out 'Elephants!'. Having done proper game viewing in Zambia, it didnt really cut it for us and we decided to cut our losses and get a taxi home (which we could have done to get here and saved a fortune, grrrrrrr!)
Then of course once we were back at the hotel, they both had an ice cream urge, so off we set to Haagan Dazs. 10pm and we were giving those cones a good licking. We managed to get Joe to bed by 11pm and Jack soon after. Packed up bags a bit, to bed about midnight with alarm set for 5.30am - great!
I dont know why I woke after a couple of hours but decided as I was awake to check on the boys, and to my astonishment found poor little Joe sleeping in his bag on the floor by his bed. I picked him up and snuggled with him in his bed back to sleep. Shortly after, I remember Gav looking in on us and then he stayed awake in our room watching the golf on
TV until it was time to rouse me out of slumberland. It wasnt too bad getting up and we got ready and did last packing bits. Woke the boys at 6am and they were both amazing - woke in great moods, were helpful in getting ready and just quietly excited about going on another plane - the good fairy must have visited us in the night. I have to say that when we have needed them to be, they have behaved fantastically. Its just the rest of the time, when we dont need them to be that they test our resolve!
The airport was entertaining in its own right - Gav and the boys spent nearly an hour messing about on the travelators, whilst I relaxed in this drop in Reflexology place and enjoyed a gorgeous foot bath and massage, such is the life!
Boarded our Quantas 737 and have to say that Flight No2 passed with no drama and in fact was a pleasant one with well behaved boys - maybe all the drugs Jack has had to take has acted as a tranquiliser as well as he slept for most of it. Joe discovered Magnums and
Movies - sat quite happily with headphones on watching Horton Hears a Who, whilst we mopped up dripping ice-cream! We dozed on and off through the film and the 5 hour flight went very quickly, and before we knew it we had arrived in the Land of Down Under.
