My first view of Singapore This was my first trip to a foreign country. I’ve spent lot of money and time on buying guide books and surfing the internet to know more about the country. I want to be more careful because I’m taking my parents along with me. I’ve been planning for this trip quite a while. Singapore was an obvious choice for me because of two reasons. First, Singapore would be a second home to any Tamil speaking Indians. Second, its my Dad’s dream to see Singapore for a very long time.
I was more cautious and took my parents before four hours to the check in time. Everything went smoothly and the flight took off at 2 AM from the Anna International Airport, Chennai. It was an amazing experience to feel for the first time that you are crossing your country’s border. My first view of Singapore city filled me with awe. The sky was lucid blue. I didn’t fill the immigration form they gave me inside the flight. I filled at the counter itself with lot of mistakes and the officer helped me. The airport was like a big high tech mall. People from different countries rushing all around the place.
My parents weren’t used to climbing the escalators. I helped my mom first leaving my dad behind with the luggage’s and then my dad and later helped myself with the remaining luggage’s. We had coffee at the airport lounge. It was quiet expensive but I convinced myself saying don’t think about the expense to Indian rupees till the end of the trip. I want to make this trip a memorable one. In fact it is a memorable one.
I bought the MRT cards for the three of us and went to the Singapore city taking the MRT. We got down at Buggies Station. I’ve booked a hotel is in Little India and I was thinking of walking to the hotel to save some money. It was a mistake. Once we came out of the station we saw the real people, a real city. It was Sunday the station wasn’t crowded and I saw people selling fruits and a guy playing some musical instrument outside the station. The old man was playing some really good music. It was new to me. I’ve seen children and poor people singing and playing music in trains and buses in India all my life

Bay area view from under the bridge but this is very different. He wasn’t looking poor and he isn’t begging. I asked a guy for help and start walking towards Little India. It wasn’t much long if I knew the correct lanes and roads. I took wrong lanes and read wrong directions. Finally met a Tamil speaking Singaporean (a God sent) directed me to the hotel. My parents were really tired especially my dad. To my surprise my Madras hotel wasn’t run by any Indian. I saw a Chinese girl on the counter. She was looking beautiful but I couldn’t understand her English. Its just their accent. Chinese speak English like Chinese. We got our room. It was a clean room with air-condition. My dad slept. I didn’t want to disturb him. I have my plans today. ‘Not doing anything’ is the only thing I didn’t want to do.
My mom was equally interested. My mom and I left the hotel to the Asiatic Museum at Raffles place. Raffles place MRT station was beautiful one. Unlike other stations it has got a Classic look from outside. The station is surrounded by skyscrapers. Asiatic Museum has an elegant English architecture. They let us take photos inside. The

From Merlion park museum shows little history of the country. Inside the museum it was little confusing, I went around to meet at the same point a couple of times. The museum is located next to the Singapore river. It was very quiet outside. We had coffee at the cafeteria outside the museum. Outside it was drizzling. My mom and I walked over the bridge to reach the Merlion park. There were a lot of people at this place. My mom wanted to have fruit juice at one of the juice centers below the bridge. She had a fruit juice. I wanted to try Durian. After all it is the Singapore’s national fruit. I liked the taste but it has a very strong smell. It turned dark and it was brilliant to see the evening lights at the bay. We went back to the hotel.
Monday, we left at 9AM to Jurang bird park. It was a long travel. We got the local train and again we have to catch a bus to reach the park. It is really easy to find the right bus at Singapore but very tough to get down at the right bus stop. You have to keep
asking the person next to you whether the place has come. Jurang Bird park is an amazing place. Kids would love to go. Along with my parents I’m the kid here. We enjoyed the bird park. My parents walked along with me. We had little food at the counter near Lories Cage. Pastries and fruit juice weren’t our type but my parents liked it. We had a great time at the Lories Cage. My mom enjoyed feeding the lories. I had a lot of fun inside the cage. The toilets had amazing interiors which makes you feel you are inside the jungle. The views were thrilling.
