Delhi - Diwali is the celebration of light over darkness, good over evil, also known as the Festival of Lights.

During this tour we were welcomed into the home of Komal and her family. Even though the Hindu culture has many deities, traditionally only 2 Gods dominate the festival of Diwali, The Goddess of wealth and prosperity – Lakshmi and the elephant-headed God Ganesha.

We joined Komal, her mum, dad and brother as they carried out their worship ritual.

It is an age-old norm to clean homes before Diwali. The believe is that the Goddess Lakshmi only steps inside if your home is clean. This doesn’t just mean dusting the house, de-cluttering things, painting your house, and re-decoration too.

Komal had created a Rangoli that looked so beautiful when the oil lamps were placed within it.

Outside the lights, lamps, drums & fireworks all added to the atmosphere.
